I'm thinking about registering a .co.uk domain and Estibot values it at $5,300 so I might register it.

How accurate is this tool?

As accurate as I would say that your domain is worth $4200 without knowing which domain it is..

Estibot is an evaluation tool, and should be treated as such, just an evaluation or a rough appraisal. Although it takes into account # of searches, # of advertisers and other key components that help determine how valuable a domain name is, in the end, your domain name is only as valuable as what the buyer wants to pay for it!.

Estibot is psychic, it was created by Skynet.

Close your eyes and throw a dart. That accurate regarding pricing.

Chances are that if it is valued at $5300 by estibot, you should take the risk and register the name.

Let's say there is 5% chance that estibot got the value right, 20% chance that in average it has overestimated by factor of 10 and 75% that it is a crap.

The expected net present value of the registered domain then would be 5% x 5300 + 20% x 530 + 75%*0 = 265 + 106 + 0 = 371 (minus registration fee).

As i like to say, Estibot measures potential, not dollar value. Why would estibot estimate this name at $5300? there must be a reason, and to me, i agree with noy that this name is easily worth your reg fee,but then you also need to ask yourself if you'll be motivated to register it irrespective of estibot's opinion and IF you will be willing to renew next year. If your answer is yes to both, then go ahead!

Isn't that the same truth for ANY valuation or appraisal process? Dollar value is only applied if a real offer is genuinely made.

I find the 8-ball advice to be just as reliable as internet advice.

Do a search on this forum. Hell, we get this question at least once a day, it seems.

I use estibot to quickly find out how many searches there are on a keyword, how much competition, the SERP and other stuff, I do believe that going by the $ value can be considered ill-advised but the site in my siggy was found using it and I believe in time it will be monetized and I can at least make some pennies from it :)
