discuss How about hyphenated names? Any secrets?

I was wondering if anyone is entering into the hyphenated domain name investments.

I saw a name D-Banking.com which I thought was solid. What do you think here? Does the hyphen add value or decreases it in such cases?

With new gTLDs all around, don't you think hyphenated names become even less valuable?

Is anyone having success with hyphenated names?

I personally stay away from these.

They are still very much in use in Europe, Mostly where companies are looking for clarity/separation between their company name and their business type.
ie, 'sharpolf-haulage' or 'stephensons-refrigeration' and the like. Usually only in either the originating Country code or .com. I don't think I've seen any of the New extensions in use apart from the ones still using the info or .biz in the same format.

So No these were not investment terms just business clarity usage

I used to stay away from hyphenated .coms but started buying a few here and there this year if sv/cpc is high enough or if the pool of potential buyers is big enough.

The German market tends to be fairly open to hyphenated domains.

You will notice a considerable amount of decent .de sales with hyphens and a few good sales with hyphenated German word .com

The Germans like to split up long words, different story elsewhere though

I have sold a few hyphenated .com names previously, but am avoiding them nowadays, if they are not very, very good.

Plenty of English phrases that use the hyphen. If a word or phrase has a hyphen in it I would want it exactly how it is used in text as my domain.

Like the term Self-Service.

If you type in "Self Service" you will find that the results show for "Self-Service" which means that is how the majority of people write the phrase. So if people are typing it with the hyphen that is how I would want the .COM domain.

Self-Service.com

Getting the non-hyphenated version would also be a priority to prevent eMail and traffic leakage, though I would use the hyphenated version as my primary domain.

That is only constant but even then you have to find the buyer
True, not many end users are looking for 3 character hyphenated domains, most likely is a "rarity collector"(like me lol)

So what you mean is that they are common in .DE extension and some in .COMs used by European companies/businesses.
Anywhere else or that is the extent and market of it?

Did you see any results on these?

Correct. Since you are experienced in this niche, would you throw some light on what are the good names when it comes to hyphenated ones?

Plenty of English phrases that use the hyphen. If a word or phrase has a hyphen in it I would want it exactly how it is used in text as my domain.

Good explanation there. I'd research on these.

Not yet. Started a month ago or so and have only 5 so far.
May I ask what makes you go for hyphenated names instead of the normal ones without hyphens?
I mean do you see value in them in long term?

Well... I of course prefer names without hyphens but sometimes a hyphenated domain is better quality than the unhyphenated one that I can get on a certain moment.
