Hosting a Blogger Site through HostGator

Hi everyone

I have spent many, many hours and lost a lot of hair trying to configure my domain into my Blogger site.

I have setup a Blogger account and am wanting my domain to direct to my blog (not just with a registrar redirect). The Blogger dashboard requires the following settings:

FTP Server
Blog URL
FTP Path
Blog Filename
Feed Filename
FTP Username
FTP Password

I have an account with HostGator which includes unlimited domain hosting. Therefore I thought it should be easy to get the above settings from my HostGator account. However I can't seem to get it right and have even talked to HostGator support several times who were no help whatsoever. If there is anyone that can help please let me know. I realise that you will probably need more specific information as to how my HostGator account is setup etc. so please post or PM if you can help and I would love to talk to you about getting this working.

There will definitely be some rep & NP$ going the way of the person who can help me get this working as I have spent many hours in frustration with no results.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
There are a lot of variables that may be the cause. Based on the limited amount of info to provide advice, here's what I can suggest:
1. Have you setup the FTP server alrady (tested it as per info given by HostGator)?
2. Have you set the directories as writable? (chmod) So Blogger can put the files in your hosting accout.
3. What error or problem are you getting exactly? This may lead you to the exact problem whereby you can be better set for a solution (Saying you can't seem to get it right can be a thousand reasons like HostGator issues, or your not implementing the config properly, etc.)
4. Does your domain name point properly to the HostGator nameservers already?
5. Did you give time for the domain to propagate after you changed the nameservers to HostGator's?

No need for NP, just wanting to help, and hope the suggestions above do that.

you may try this one, i assume it's plesk

FTP Server: your ip address or yourdomain.com
Blog URL: http://www.yourdomain.com/
FTP Path : /home/USERNAME/public_html
Blog Filename : index.php
Feed Filename : atom.xml (default)
FTP Username : [email protected]
FTP Password : your password

on second thought you don't need hostgator since blogger/blogspot.com also host customized domain (your own domain) by modifying cname

if the ftp won't work, seems like hostgator and blogger won't work together

Thanks for your suggestions and help all. The cname customized name should work well, I can't believe I didn't see this. I feel like an idiot now, wasting all this time when it was probably so easy all along. I will try it out when I get a chance and let you know.

Best regards.
