I'm also sure they are going to say something in advance of a Apple announcement to pre-ride the coattails.

Well, there you are !

But you could not expect them to do somthing like that after an announcement for perhaps 2 months afterwards.

...actually it's a pretty smart move since the big compare will be software, and apple will be lacking a lot of that.
So, a pointed reminder I guess. Not that most Quest buyers are likely to afford a Apple HMD anyway.

LOL
No shame in dumpster diving. I do it all the time. Perhaps less than I did 7 years ago.
And in the last 7 years, I have sold a dozen or so of them. Just not in our niche.

Also know that I dropped a couple dozen in the same time with 'what was I thinking' !
But, it can be profitable if you choose right I guess and willing to wait.

The timing for our niche is probably ripe for the picking to dumpster dive. Although I have said this before and actually believe it to be true with a Apple pending announcement. There will be a flurry of activity from folks reg'n TM names to more looking for low hanging fruit from those tired of waiting.
If you like to flip or dump your lowest names, great opportunity as well when more are looking.
I'm trying to decide on about 5 to dump in the coming rush. But I have weeded them out pretty good or sold them in the last 4 years. Getting hard to pick them. Cash flow is good if you can keep it flowing.

Funny is the fact when I suguested the future of VR would look like that about 6 years ago, a argument started here.
And there it is !
That being a tether between the phone and the HMD. So it could have extra processing power off-board.
While that is still possible, it is more likely the device is a true stand-alone with 5g tech built in.
But I would not rule out a tether option for advanced use. But could also be 300mb+ wifi /Mi-Fi.

I think I heard this 3 years ago.

Déjà vu...

In this time frame, I have made 40k from selling XR names and it is only starting now.

But yea Deja vu.

nice... so u just kinda sold some good sellable xr stuff early or earlier and before more adoption so u get renewal cashflow and stuff? in your view soon those sold names could be double or triple sale values? or u just kinda unloaded all the avg stuff and kept all best ?

We both know that the large one that makes most of that total was 'not related' to VR/AR/MR or alt media or haptics in general or even remotely. I would call that one luck as it was not your target and you should as well.

Great sale and all but, how does that say anything for XR in our niche ?

Do you need to convince everyone ? Tell it as it is without the hype.

I think we have had this discussion before... deja vu

Apparently, this sub-niche is alive and well...

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/pokerstars-vr-launches-playstation-vr2-100000417.html

I remember well when 'VR + gambling' names were the thing about 7 years ago. I hold less than a dozen.
So, it looks like a start.
There is a lot of competition in the 2D space of this, so, it's going to take alot of HMD's in the field and someone with good earnings reports to get all their attention. But I'm sure they are all watching this one, even if only a game, it represents 'their' future perhaps.

Google Touts Android Progress Beyond Phones, Teases XR Platform

“Together with Samsung, we’re building a new immersive XR platform powered by Android,” he writes. “We’ll share more later this year.” — Sameer Samat

https://www.pcmag.com/news/google-touts-android-progress-beyond-phones-teases-xr-platform

Excited to see what Google brings to table!
It will be similar to any other Qualcomm XR2 powered stand-alone. I'm sure it will look and feel unique, but will be functionally the same. I'm just waiting to see exactly what form the AR is. Likely, it is actually Mixed Reality.
I have never seen Google play the high end of any hardware market.

But the device looks to be a Samsung device (their partner also using same Qualcomm chip), so it could be that Google is doing something of a XROS adaption on/for android. I'm sure it will be on their newest phone as well.
We will have to wait and see I guess. More is always better.
But it could also be that Android is going to power the stand-alones?

You have to be impressed with XR growth and Silicon Valley adoption

The difference with you guys that seemingly promote XR is I understand it for what it is. It is a byproduct of Qualcomm.
I am not impressed. I kinda expected what we have been seeing. I have watch as Qualcomm paid somewhat blogs appearing as tech media news sites for promotion of it's creation.

If you want to impress me...
Show me $50k+ total in 'END USER" XR name sales "IN OUR NICHE" in all years time.
I can show that for just VR in one year of 2016, 7 years ago and with little hardware/software in the market.
Just because you see it branded, you think there is a demand for it or are anticipating one. But so far, I have not seen anyone who understands exactly what it is that has been buying the XR names.

The fact that all these co's that are branding with the term actually use Qualcomm cpu/gpu XR / XR2 chips should worry you not comfort you, if you are holding at least certain XR names.

The simple fact is that I do not see a lot of use for the term. But notice I did not say any.
When I can see ''END USE BUYERS that can total $100k IN OUR NICHE'', I certainly will need to re-think all that I just said.
Up to this point, it has all been investor speculation. (investor to investor sales)
Not that anyone really cares when they are selling if it is a end user, or if it is selling into our niche, just the money, but if you are trying to measure the actual market, it matters.

The XR platform will be a success, but how far it goes or translates into names remains to be seen. I am watching this the same as you or anyone else. But perhaps even more closely, since I'm not seeing end user names sales in our niche, and that matters.
