Wow, can this be real? Elad sold it a year ago for quite a sum (still nowhere near its value) and the new owner just let it drop? I would for sure have paid $5K for it. VRCams was also a steal.
Elad had christmas twice this year would have grabbed it was a great buy / re buy many cool names dropped crazy some just drop them

XRP*rn or ShortStories?

If XRP*rn, don't get me wrong its a nice name, but Meta/Metaverse became what XR was supposed to be and even that is now in trouble in itself, people calling Mark Z's 'Metaverse' vision doomed to fail.

That is the problem investing in future tech, it's like buying a lottery ticket, for example you can be the owner of NFTs dot com, that previous owners wanted to sell for under $20k just 2 years ago before NFT's became a thing but because it did become a thing it ended up making them $15 million, stories like that are rare though, more times than not investing in future tech you can have a domain that 'looks' the next big thing 1 month but a month later it becomes obsolete.

You did well in my opinion, I'm not sure what ShortStories sold for but if you sold that under $30k, i would be regreting that a lot more.
You get very few actual tech writers saying 'the metaverse is doomed to fail'. The general public are just laughing at the crudeness of how Meta's Horizon Worlds avatars currently look, and assuming it's 'doomed to fail'. It's like laughing at how long a simple webpage took to load in 1995 and claiming the Internet was 'doomed to fail'. And investment advisors are worried that Zuckerberg is ploughing too much into the metaverse and taking his eye off his core business which puts bread on the table today.
Apple has 'bet' heavily on the metaverse as well, only they have decided to call it.... 'XR'.

XRPorn .com sold for $5000 today at DropCatch while VRCams .com also sold today but for $13275 and also at DropCatch. Seems VR is still way better.
mentioning the above keyword I have found in my DN library XRPornVideo - of course, not the same quality

I was giving a compliment before how you got a great deal previously and you didn’t seem to be having it, so had a feeling it was you :xf.laugh:

Adult domains are tough, if was a deliberate drop by previous owner I think that says it all about who got the better deal previously (I know a lot of investors won’t go near them), but it probably wasn’t a deliberate drop, it is too big to drop especially after what they compensated for it, I made a post about ‘drops’ a couple of weeks ago in another thread:-

https://www.namepros.com/threads/3377-com-sold-for-113-000.1290302/#post-8784309

I'm sure you are happy and rightfully so, but i always feel some sadness in situations like this, as there's a good chance something drastic as happened in the previous owners life.

Putting that aside and looking at the domain itself, even though adult domains are tough to sell, immersive tech has potential revolutionize adult entertainment so if ‘XR’ is as big as what you (and a few others here) believe it could be massive, congrats(y)

Previous owner let it drop.
He decided to change his life and didn't want to have gambling and adult domains anymore.
He has found Jesus according to him and I respect that.

Would have still tried to liquidate in that case, but I guess he’s also chosen not to receive any money from that side so all the best to him, thanks for sharing that info (y)

I have seen this people have a thought change and no longer want anything to do with the thing they now despise. Dropped some great names sad reality was he made good money for dropcatch who really don't care where they make there money .

I thought that too but didn't say anything.

Shame he didn't just contact Elad (or someone else) to see if they wanted it free or put it in an auction and give whatever money they make to charity, rather than just letting a fat cat company who prey on this get fatter.

Check out this search data by Google Keyword Planner and Estibot.

What stands out is that XR and MR are the least searched for of the bunch and VR is still way better with 550,000 exact match searches/month and XR with only 18,100 exact match searches/month, it may be growing, but it is miles away from the keyword VR, which is still the best. Things can change, but for now VR is king.

If you suddenly find Jesus please send him my regards and let me know before dropping any of your domains :giggle:

I'm not here a lot and for a reason.
The reason is that this place is not contributing to me as it used to.
An important say though for investors in tech and in general.
Many don't do enough research and don't look at things from the right angles.
There is the investor angle, the end user angle, the marketing team angle, the forward-thinking angle etc.
I recommend people to dig deeper, make asymmetric bets diversify of course, and think about the future.

The reason I invested in XR and in the metaverse keyword was simple. it was the same key that led me to buy MR names when I was just starting.
Looking for an umbrella term as most companies will want to do both at some point in their life unless they have a very specific product.
No one has a crystal ball, but if you think it through and diversify enough taking into consideration all angles you have a higher chance of finding success.

Oh and watch CES closely, check Jargon's and new stuff coming.

No debate, just my POV.

I don’t post here much myself as I don’t feel I learn anything new from posting in these threads.

I do research, but research only gets you so far, if you do research you will see a world leading company believing VR is the future and another world leading company believing AR is the future, if we are going for catch terms a world leading company calling it one thing and another calling it something else, so where does research get you if all research is conflicting? Truth is, this is developing tech and no one knows the future.

As an investor you have to go by your own initiative and own experiences and my own experiences say future tech is difficult to make money in, not really profitable or worth it and there are better things to invest in.

I have a lot of money invested in immersive tech, but I know for a fact I will not sell every domain at a profit, I believe you have invested in various terms, all these terms won't be 'a thing' so some of yours won’t sell either at a profit, what makes a great investor is knowing that and not to beat a dead horse when something as gone.

What I do put all my investments in a certain niche together and work out whether I’m making money or losing that way and in my 7+ years investing in VR/AR as a whole, I’m about breaking even in virtual tech (possibly still at a loss), where I do better (and find more enjoyable) is single word .com’s where I’m communicating with CEO’s of multi-billion companies and individuals who have their own wiki page.

I’m not trying to put anyone off investing in immersive tech, if you are making money carry on doing it.

I’m not trying to put anyone off investing in immersive tech, if you are making money carry on doing it, I’m personally not in this area (right now) even though I love the potential of VR/AR.

I'm making money.

I'm making money.
Nice one, Swetha is making money in xyz, most are not. Thats what its all about finding your niche (y)

Question - I believe you have investments in VR/AR/Immersive/MR/XR/Metaverse/Meta/Holo (and others), do you believe every single one of your tech domains will be sold at a profit?

I don't believe every single one of my names will be sold for profit but I do believe in investing in top names in every niche so even if the niche is not successful enough you still have a better chance than others in making $ from your names.

Good strategy, i've also done that in areas i've invested in, good luck (y)

I think the reason we all stop by and chat is we all have a love for future tech and appeals to our gambling side in us . We like to look forward and dream on what the future may bring . Trying to predict the term in an alphabet soup category is always a challenge .

Lets see 2023 🤔

As somebody who promotes VR products, I can confirm that VR headset sales are way down on last Xmas. But as multiple news articles have pointed out, last holiday season was a 'perfect storm' for VR headsets, so better to compare with 2020, and it's considerably up on that. And of course, 2023 should rock with the PSVR 2 headset, the Quest 3, and likely the Apple headset, along with the likes of the new HTC headset.

Elad posted about this in the XR thread : https://mixed-news.com/en/htcs-new-...y-be-called-vive-xr-elite-and-will-cost-1400/
