Hello all,
Aron Meystedt here (XF.com).
As many of you may know, I have started the Domain Name and IP division at Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas.
I know many of you may be curious about the new development.
This is the best way to tell everyone what is planned and what this might mean for the domain industry.
Here is the information I want to share with everyone:
Established in 1976, Heritage Auctions is the 3rd largest auction house in the world. We have double the web traffic of Sotheby's and Christie's, combined.
I am located at our home office in Dallas, and we have other offices in LA, San Francisco, New York and Europe.
We sell across 35 categories including Fine Art, Coins, Sports Memorabilia and Comics.
We have over 850,000 registered bidders across 187 countries.
Our clients are interested in unique investments and collectibles.
We are planning a premium domain auction this fall, with a limited "hand picked" inventory of names.
I am seeking names that our investor-buyers would be interested in, at prices I can justify to them.
I think these type of names will sell:
LL and LLL
NN and NNN
1 and 2 words
Names with revenue.
I am seeking .com only this first time around, unless an incredible .net presents itself.
We will heavily promote the event for two months.
Our marketing and PR teams are incredible - and we have plans to widely spread the news of our entrance into this marketplace. We have numerous press connections and I have no doubt the reach of our promotional efforts will be great.
I have a small team of people that will do direct sales (phone) and we have direct marketing abilities to end users (when applicable) via direct mail, email etc.
While we are NOT new to the auction industry, I do understand the hesitation since this is our entrance into the domain market.
Considering this, we WILL allow reasonable reserve prices.
Meaning: I'm not seeking a two letter .com with a reserve of $700,000.
I'm less interested in impressing the media with an incredible list of high-end names - and more interested in keeping our buyers interested in our industry, by presenting them with unique domain asset that are priced to sell.
Each division of our company runs like an entrepreneurial enterprise, and we all receive the shared resources of our marketing and PR departments. Personally, it's exciting to pursue this venture with the resources of a solid company behind me.
I am very excited to bring domain names to the main stream investors. This influx of buyers and money can only help all of us. The domain brokers I have spoken with are excited. The bigger players in our industry are excited - they see the potential here. We are one step closer to establishing domain names as a widely recognized asset class.
Even buyers and sellers on the lower price level should be excited. I'm not recruiting new competition for you... I'm finding buyers for your names. Our client's won't magically appear in the drop auctions... so don't worry about our user base competing with you.
With that said, submissions are open for a few more weeks (until early September).
If you have interest in consigning with us, and putting your domain(s) in front of A LOT of eyeballs and buyers, give me a shout:

www.HA.com/IP has additional information. Please sign up to receive updates on buying/selling and our first event.
We will hold an ONLINE auction in the fall and it will culminate with a live event. The live event will feature floor bidding, phone bidding and Internet bidding.
In fact, our integration of Internet bidding (with the live floor bidding) is our strong suit. I know this is something that's needed in our industry - and something that we may be able to assist the domain conferences with going forward.
This has a lot of potential to be a major boost for our industry. I've wanted a major auction house to get involved in our space for several years. When this opportunity presented itself, I jumped on it.
I am very proud to be with Heritage Auctions and very humbled that this opportunity has been given to me.
Email me if you have questions on the selling process.
Thanks for your support and email with ideas, suggestions, or an introduction of yourself.
Thank you!
