Global auction house Heritage Auctions is no stranger to premium domain names. Having hosted their main website on the two-letter .COM domain HA.com for many years, the company has now made the move to acquire the one-word domain Heritage.com in a deal that could be into the six-figure range.
Domain investors may already know of Heritage Auctions thanks to industry veteran Aron Meystedt (@Napkin.com), who is currently a director of intellectual property at the auction house. Through Heritage Auctions, Aron has helped to broker deals such as Black.com earlier this year. Heritage Auctions have also brokered sales such as NL.com for $575,000, Digital.com for $373,750 and PY.com for $358,000.
The Heritage.com domain seems to have been on the market for some time, with Elliot Silver (@EJS) publishing an article in August 2016 on why Heritage Auctions should buy Heritage.com. According to Elliot's article, the domain held a "Buy Now" price of $300,000 with a minimum offer of $100,000.
According to DomainIQ, Heritage.com was previously owned by MediaNews Group, Inc, a Denver based corporation that merged with 21st Century Media to form Digital First Media in 2013. According to their corporate website, the company now operates over ninety different newspapers and media brands.
DomainIQ's WHOIS history shows that the name switched over to Heritage Auctions' possession within the past couple of days, with the company opting to use SafeNames as the registrar.
Although the sales price is currently unknown, it's likely to be in the six-figure range based on the prices mentioned in last year's Flippa auction. Requests have been made to the buyer, seller and likely broker of the transaction to reveal the sales price. This article will be updated should the price be revealed.
