When is the extension .info appropriate? I am thinking about purchasing a .info domain dealing with genelogy, like ScotichClans.info, but that one is already taken. I would love to hear from you guys. Thank you

I would only pick a .info for an informative site (similarly, I would only pick a .net for a network, or forum)

I think people don't know much about info domains. If your visitors are very familiar with website and internet, you may choose info. But if your visitors don't know much about internet, I stongly advice you to have a COM domain. Neither net, nor org. People only know com domains.

I have an info domain and I regret now.

Dot Info is the 2nd largest domain exestion.

I use .info for a lot of my sites. When your flipping a site like i do i build turnkey sites and sell them each for $15 - $20. So if your flipping they are a great idea as they are now $3 at godaddy.

But if your planning on developing a site use it for a INFORMATION site something that has vistors learn about your subject.

.Info's have quickly become the spammers domain of choice due to registration prices as low as $0.77.

So from a search engine optimization standpoint, trying to rank a .info is more of an uphill battle than SEO is to begin with.
