Hello everyone, my name is Ian. I am brand new to domaining. I just bought 2 domain names from GoDaddy. I am thinking that I will stick with auctions on GoDaddy, and private selling if possible. The domains I bought are for clean eating niche: thecleaneatingguru.com & .net.

Bare with me folks as I am brand new to this, but hope to make a decent side income doing this work. All of your help will be invaluable I am sure, and I can't wait to meet more of you all and speak with you guys soon!

First off, Welcome. This is a great place to learn.

Secondly, do all the reading you possibly can here, before you register any more domains.

Just a couple of tips. There is really no need to register the .net, if you have the .com tied down already. Especially if you are only looking to sell and not develop. Also, try to keep your domains short and without repeating letters if possible. Repeating letters are ok if they are actually are part of the root term, but then the domain still has to pass other metrics such as brandability, ease of pronunciation, etc.

Prefixes and suffixes just add unnecessary bulk to the domain and only work on occasion. Throwing a 'the' onto some keywords, can turn a $xxxx domain into a $x-$xx domain.

Using your domain as an example, 'cleaneating' .com would be a much better domain.

Lastly, always know your market before you register a domain, such as how many potential end-users there are, size of industry, similar domains being used, etc.

Read, Read, Read,

Good Luck

Wow, thanks so much for the insight. I will definitely be reading more. I have been doing that and watching a ton of videos on how to search for good domains. So I hope to have more soon!

Great advice from @capiche for example:
Although cleaneating(dot)com is not available, cleaneatingguru.com is and probably would be considered more desirable than thecleaneatingguru.com as it's shorter. You can still be considered "The" Clean Eating Guru regardless of whether your sight has the "The" or not!

Welcome Ian! You are in good company. Each and every member of NamePros began their intrigue and interest with domains at one time. We can all relate and offer stories of our triumphs and failures along the way. I recommend absorbing as much as possible to formulate your strategy. I learn every day. If you learn from each of your interactions and transactions, you'll never really lose a dime in Domains.

Consider your early dealings as Business Courses and any of your expenses as the tuition. You are almost guaranteed to have some financial success as you continue, as long as you don't drop out!

Welcome to NP...

1.) Read
2.) Read some more
3.) And some more
4.) Make mistakes
5.) Learn from your mistakes
6.) Make better decisions
7.) Capitalize off those decisions
8.) Network with others
9.) Maintain Integrity & Stay Humble
10.) Rinse & Repeat

This is by no means the definition of how to succeed in domaining, but just a few pointers. I'm sure other domains can come up with plenty more.

These are just my 10 Domainer Commandments :xf.cool:
