There are probably hundreds of facebook group for domain sellers.
Somehow people constantly add me to many of them and all I see there are lots of worthless domain people try to sell.

I'm curious if anyone ever actually sold a domain this way?

Sold one domain by contacting the potential end user through Facebook page of his company.

Never sold a domain through Facebook..I've been to Facebook pages to get contact emails and other information, but never actually sent a message through Facebook or posted on any groups. I'd be a little curious to hear if this actually worked for someone, lol.

interesting question

as when fb first blew up, lot of domainers were talking bout how getting a fb account would help sell their names and all the end-user potential that was there.

well, after the hype, not much news on that front.

I don't use fb, so any success and failure stories would be good to read.

imo...

I tried selling surname domains. Out of many sent msgs, got one response: "Thank you. Not interested."

I've sold upwards of 50 domains over the past couple of years on Facebook (4 domains just two days ago).

I've also bought domains there (2 X lll.org and a ccc.com last week).

If you are looking for top dollar for your domain, it is not the spot for you. If you have a decent domain and want a quick flip for $xx-xxx, give it a shot.

Be warned that there are a lot of really crappy domains in the FB groups, and people who want a lot of money for them.

I would say that the bigger FB groups are:

Facebook Domain Name Network (2000 or so members)
Domain Name Marketplace (about the same)

Having said that, you will see the same tired posts in all of the groups, as people tend to just copy and paste in as many groups as they can.

Yeah not really worth it if all you can get is $xx-$xxx haha

If you have somewhere else that allows you to sell domains for $xxxx+ every day, I congratulate you.

Here in the real world, selling a domain for $xx-xxx instead of eventually letting it drop is much better than just letting it drop and getting nothing for it.

Haha.... I didn't really mean it like that. If I was gonna drop the domain then sure, that's a good place to sell then; but I prefer to hold onto my names as long as possible then sell them for $xx or low $xxx.

that's actually a smart idea, messaging people to buy a domain of their first/last name through facebook. Surprised it didn't work out.

Yea there is a lot of domains being posted in those groups, tbh most of these domains I wouldn't even want for free. But I've seen some wanted posts there too, so I suppose people do buy. But I'm curious what sort of domains did you sell on FB? Was it to other domainers?

Tried contacting potential end users via FB. Never worked for me.

One can generate leads i.e. how much? inquiries but there is a huge gap in value perception between domain investors and those outside the industry. Thus far those potential buyers disappear once you respond with a price even if the price is $XXX. Also note if you get aggressive with messaging FB can disable your ability to send messages.

I will share as well an experience with FB ads - total waste of money. I set up just over 25 minisites on higher-value domains across multiple verticals using DomainApps so visitors could see examples of how the domain could be used if developed. Keep in mind that you cannot run an ad campaign on a parked domain so I had to have some content there. In either case, these sites can be set up with about ten minutes work. Anyway, then I set up targeted ad campaigns based on interest or geographic location (for geo domains) or language (English/Spanish). In some cases I even selected industry or job titles (Marketing management, Sales, VP, CEO, etc) or limited the campaign to business owners - trying to target ads toward individuals with some authority in an organization. At first I did not put prices on the campaign so effectively visitors would land on the minsite and see at the top of the page "This site is for sale" with no price. After spending $XXX and not getting even one offer I decided to put a price on the ads thinking perhaps people were afraid to make an offer with no listed price. I then chose to put a monthly lease figure rather than a sales figure because the lease figure was about 2% of the target sales price. I would have been open to selling but just wanted to illustrate how reasonable the price was for a real business. After spending an additional $XXX amount and not getting any offers or sales I shut down the campaigns. The campaigns did generate a number of likes for either the ad page or my sales page but I don't care about likes - purpose of this exercise was to generate sales or lease revenue. I did note in some cases the individuals liking my pages did not seem to fit the profile of the type of individual I was targeting. For example on one real estate ad, I received a like from a busboy at a restaurant - how the *&^%$! did that happen? Does this guy work for a real estate agency part time as well or what? I believe for another real estate ad, the individual liking my ad page did not even live in the same state as the geo I was targeting - was she on vacation? So anyway, my advice is don't waste your money attempting to sell domains using FB ads.
