Hello all,

I am curious if a domain has ever dropped when transferring it from one registrar to another.
Has this ever happened to anyone?
Just want to know if I should be cautious when moving a domain from one registrar to another...

Thanks,
Fogfever

Normally you aren't able to transfer a domain with an expiration date of less than 7 days away. There is also a 30-day grace period after expiration, so you don't have to worry about it dropping.

yeah.. I wouldn't transfer a domain unless it had at least 45 days left on registration..
have you heard of a domain name just dropping during transfer because their was a mistake on one of the registrar's end? or is the domain transfer system perfect?

transferred many domains, never had dropped or heard such things. But it does scares me
if you mention it.

I've never heard of a domain dropping during transfer. As Asian said, most registrars have safety mechanisms in place to ensure that a domain during a transfer cannot be dropped.

Actually the problem is when a domain is transfered just before expiry and the transfer does not go ahead because of some issue like the godaddy 60-day rule, a locked domain or invalid/missing EPP code. So you are stuck with the current registrar and back to square one :)

:hi: asianinvasion

This is not true.

I know some Registrars illegally try to block transfers but ICANN does
not allow a Registrar to block a transfer based on # of days remaining.

My source:
From ICANN's Policy on Transfer of Registrations between Registrars

"Instances when the requested change of Registrar may not be denied include, but are not limited to:

...Domain name registration period time constraints, other than during the first 60 days of initial registration or during the first 60 days after a registrar transfer.
