Dear Domainers,

Today I received an offer of $500 on a 4 character .com today and found the person who offered is a VP in a company with 1.5 Billon Euro turn over. What should be the counter offer?

Thanks in advance.

How were they able to offer that 500 dollars? Is that your lowest offer accepted on a landing page or did they contact your Whois directly? I think it’s hard to say not knowing what 4 characters you are talking about what pattern etc. It’s a good idea to have a price in mind before you list.

Offer had come through Bodis Parking

Have you checked for recent similar sales at NameBio? You have to consider how valuable is this domain in general not just how much money this buyer has. Is this the sort of domain someone else may want? Sometimes you gotta go with your gut and ask for what you are willing to part with it for.

Hopefully 4 character experts will post here.

Can you provide us with a similar domain name to yours so that we can better understand how your domain name could be beneficial to an end user?

Without knowing the name and the buyer it's hard to give any advice. You should research if your domain is valuable to their business. Did you get any message on the bodis lander or only $500 amount offer?

Ask for whatever price makes you happy, it's your domain.

Pay4.com sold for 25,104.
CP80.com sold for 6,500.
FW09.com sold for $12.

136 CCCC .COMs sold for over $1000 YTD. Maybe yours will be 137.

Good luck.

I've seen the domain and my honest advice would be to counter in the 4 figure range. You should be able to get $2k+ for it.

Are you sure he is the VP, and not someone with the same name?
Does he want it for the company, or for a personal project?
How easy would it be to find an alternative name?
Is it a potential new brand name for the company to use?

All of these questions could affect the sale price.

If it's just random letters then mid xxxx area would be my starting point. If it's pronounceable or has a substantial searchable meaning then I'd quote higher. You can always go down but ya can't go back up.

Ask for low xxxxx$ range. Because I have received couple of offers for my 11 years old domain 4own.com
I was not able to guess who the buyer is since emails are not giving me any clues.
But in your case you have the buyer details in your hands.

You know the company, is the name relevant to that company? Not difficult to find out with the info you have.

It's your domain, therefore it's your price.
You can ask for whatever you want.
Of course, we all know, the lower the price, the higher the chance that you will sell it (sooner, if).

Depends all on the sellers / buyers patience (in other words: on their will to negotiate).

Good luck & let us know the result (for the case that you will sell it) if you like!

It's rare that a huge company would show them self during a negotiation. At least for me it is, they normally stay hidden.

Usually when I get an email showing the company it's an employee wanting the domain for personal use. But since I can't distinguish between personal and business in these type situations I normally loose the sale because I'm pricing pricing the company and not employee.
