Hi!
Yes, it is an intentionally provocative title, usually makes for a more passionate debate!

After all the fiasco with .eu I have recently noticed them selling for considerably less than what I envisioned their value to be- LLL and NNN are selling for way under what they were going for around the landrush time, and I've seen some reports of LL and NN names going for lower than I would have thought too.

Also, I haven't really seen much hype about the extension of late, and certainly not the number of decent sales as many other extensions that I would have classed as lesser.

Is the extension doomed? Or do you think it is normal for the value to drop after the dust has settled?

Compare to the crazy landrush passion, .eu has crashed.

Some good sales are still taking place from time to time, there have been big transactions like hotel.eu, shopping.eu.

No, I agree that there have been a few good sales for the top premium- really i am talking about the reseller market, certainly if you look at the prices some of them are going for on Sedo now it is drastically less than at the landrush, and I rarely see any good ones on the forum.

From what i am seeing the .eu extension is doing fairly well, i see numerous reports of .eu sales on Sedo appearing from time to to time and this is only what is being reported.

I mean the recent sales notification on Sedos frontpage is not all they sell in a day or per extension. If you see 2 .eu sales it could have been more.

Depending on the seller pricing is relative and the domain in question if expected to sell higher like a LL.eu is expected to sell.
I've seen .eu domains sell for prices that makes you wonder why LL.eu domains would be sold for less or equal of the prices on domains i have seen.

I have confidence in the .eu from the beginning and i still do seeing how it does.

Well the morons in Eurid and the Commission are primarily to blame for this. They destroyed the credibility of .eu as a trustworthy TLD for the EU. As a result of this, the ccTLDs are doing well as is .com gTLD. It seems to be running at an average of 2000 new domains a day now. In terms of new registrations, that puts it below .biz in real terms.

The auto-renew nature of .eu is going to catch a lot of small time domainers on the hop. (Registrants have to actually cancel the domain renewal.) But when the deletions kick in later this year, it would not be surprising to see .eu shrink back to the 1.5M - 1M domain count region.

Regards...jmcc

i agree

.eu still has a good future ahead i think after an indeed awful start. the drop in regfee's will definitely help and i am looking forward to the drops later on this year.

Domainspade- thanks for that link- interesting to see how many are german-language domains. I know Germany has a strong domainig community, but it appears .eu has not suffered so much there as i see it suffering elsewhere. Thanks to all contributing- some very interesting points- i couldn't agree more that Eurid are hugely to blame, and it is interesting to see the relatively low number of .eu registrations compared to other extentions. Most points are confirming my beliefs- I think there will always be a number of nbotable sales in most extentions, but for me there needs to be a major overhaul if .eu is going to be anything more than an alternative when the .de is taken. :)
