Hi, I was thinking on buying one of those Revolution.com templates, probably this one http://www.revolutiontheme.com/magazine/ and was wondering if anyone here has ever used them?

Any idea what software would you need to edit them ? could you do it in dreamweaver or does it have to be wordpress ?

Also how easy are they to adjust, ad new drop-down menus and change the page layout, links etc and can they be hosted like a normal HTML site ?

Any info at all would be great because its totally new to me, I have used Dreamweaver quiet alot but never Wordpress.

Thanks :tu:

Dreamweaver is not a backend script, it is a coding tool. Wordpress is a backend script programmed in php using mysql to allow you to create a dynamic website, with which you can install this particular theme.
Can you take the theme and turn it into pure HTML? Probably, if you're good at coding and decyphering php.
Best bet? Install Wordpress, learn how to work it, and just use the theme. You'll find it is incredibly easy to create new menus and alter the layout, and doing so will require little to no coding.
Also, an important note is that you will likely work with wordpress again in the future. It is good to learn, so try it, and if you feel comfortable then buy the template. There is no going wrong if you wait, since you can always gain valuable experience, and WP is free.

I have the Revolution Media Pro theme running on my Worpress blog and it's great. It's pretty easy to customize if you know basic HTML & CSS. This is a Wordpress theme so you need wordpress to use it.

Few months ago (probably a year or more), Revolution was the only magazine theme available for Wordpress, but now a lot of people are offering free magazine-looking Wordpress themes. It needs a little bit of work to maintain these type of magazine looking themes like creating custom fields and images. I think my post on some free WP magazine-looking themes is useful: http://www.naveen.info/2008/03/11/my-favorite-magazine-style-wordpress-themes/
