Hi there, what sort of way would i go to create a site? ... i've used dreamweaver for 3-4 months, just fiddling with it and creating "table" based websites and a few ebay templates. Mostly i use photoshop for the whole layout then slice the images up and load the HTML file into dreamweaver to add some text.

What i want to know is, which way is the professional way of creating a websites? ... i heard tables not good, so which other way would i create a website?

thanks

andrew

edit: when i mean by creating a website, i was on about the structre of the site. layers?

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

some people chose not to use tables and some do, I prefer tables, it just makes everything easyer to do. most sites without tables are a bunch of images stacked together in such a way that it all fits together..

Yea, I like to use CSS (Stylesheets), for mine as they allow me to seperate content and design, I think it's alot simpler than tables, maybe that's just me.

for some time, the question was tables or layers? and most of designers answered TABLES.
the way u descriped is a professional way 4 a designer that work all alone, meaning if u work with a coleage developper u need 2 set all things together first and may use CSS
thank you

I would go with CSS - Adobe PS and Dreamweaver.

CSS is defintly the way to go, its tricky to get into though but when you do everything is so much easier and cleaner.

Also check out Topstyle this ive heard is a great package for helping when designing CSS sites.

I don't like using layers, you can never tell. Some browsers are different, and may stick something somewhere that you don't want it to be. Tables are my choice. Everything is aligned with everything else. Tables must be the professional option as well because Photoshop uses tables when you slice an image, and not DIVs... so there!

i prefer using tables mainly because i am quite new to designing but i think that CSS would work far better,

layers is the perfect way to KILL your site totally
coz as easy as it can b used
it let the page b a total mess in any different resolution or any different browser then the one the designer used it :tri:

I actually prefer to use a combination of css/tables. One or two main tables... and then the rest of the design is usually formatted with css.

What is best to design the page with also depends on what you want to do with the page, how often you want to change it, etc. If you're going to want to change the structural layout and color scheme of the site often, I'd recommend css over tables every time.

tables are meant for tabular data, not for design

I don't like tables because they seem, in some cases, to not line up by about a pixel. It gets really aggrevating viewing your site 1px off. I prefer using CSS and then using divs and spans. If you want help setting it up let me know.

tables are really hard to control, so I prefer using div in css. it is easier to use and most of the times turn out better (in my opinion)
