Is it possible to buy a hand registered new age domain at a cheap price and sell it the next day for tens of thousands of dollars?

Your question is kind of like asking if you could be struck by lightning. The answer is yes to both questions and the probabilities are similar that they will happen to you.

Yap! It has happened this week but such is very rear. What I expected you to ask is " is it possible to buy hand registered domain and sell it in two to three days"
This has happened this week even a domain sold for five figure; but it was a dropped domain and sold in the third day.
I will post my new hand reg domain that sold quickly episode for this week on Sunday on my blog and you will see what I am talking about.
Meanwhile before Sunday; you can view some new hand reg domains that sold in TWO AND THREE days after regged. Visit the blog www.dncombo.com

Turn hand reg. into 5-figure sale in one day? Never gonna happen. Besides high sale don't take place overnight, it take even months of negotiation between buyer / seller / broker.

Funny you would ask that question Max....I just hand reg'd a domain that I posted at "Your Reg of the Day":

HalfBull(.)com

My critics here on NP will tell you that I'm "Full of Bull", but they're just "half" right. Since registering it, I discovered from a Google search there's a Half-Bull Half Man character in Greek Mythology seen here;
https://www.greekmyths-greekmythology.com/myth-of-theseus-and-minotaur/. There are also dozens of artistic renderings of a "Half-Bull Half Man" creature on the internet. I wasn't thinking of any of this when I registered the name. In addition, it appears the name has been registered before, and every time someone drops it, someone else picks it up. I just bought it from GD for 8.49. I've already had some feedback from a well respected NP member who said, "I actually like the domain name HalfBull.com a lot"..... enough to pay 10K for it?.....LOL!...i think not:xf.wink:

Finally, GD says this about the name; Valuable keyword: half is a high value keyword that has an average sale price of $5512; Memorable: halfbull.com is easy to remember; Great extension: Uses the .com extension.

The point of all this is, if you're just half full of bull, with a little luck, anything can happen:xf.grin:

You should've researched prior to registering. Why?
Because all the information that you acquire following the registration will end up being used to justify spending money on that domain.
It's a half good domain.

Everything is possible, but that would be extremely difficult. And the next question is if you can turn that into a real business model and not just get lucky once or twice.

I think it's better to hand register a bunch of domains for upcoming trends, wait 1-3 years until the hype is there and then sell for a big profit.

The simple answer is a big NO. Because all new age important names have been tagged with Premium price, so you will not be getting them at normal registration fee. There may be a few names left, if you are so lucky to register them, yes it is possible you may get some extra profit but certainly not in tens of thousands of dollars. Domain business is not a casino plaza, please note.

If I had a high quality domain and nobody register it before and there is a demand on this domain why not selling it the next day at marketplace with the price that reflect it's real value ?

If you were able to register it, it may not hold as much value as you think, because someone would have registered it already. Valuable domain names for the most part are already taken.

So hand reg selling for 10K+ next day could be possible..
After being an investor for ten years I can say that it hasn't happened to me BUT:
I bought Photo-T/o/u/r/s/ in king for $5+ fees and sold for $12,000USD a few months latter...
It could have been a hand reg, it was a $5 closeout at Godaddy that was going to DROP.

I have other sales and deals that I bought for $10 and sold for five figures months latter...

You can see that
Btm.com sold for $48,608 on 22/7/18 and regged on 19/7/18 - Sold on 4th day of the registration
88567.com sold for $22,383 at PVT Sale on 24/1/18 registered on 24/07/18
TomorrowIsYou.com registered on 3/4/18 sold on 15/7/18 at sedo.com

Cheers anything is possible in domaining but such hand regs requires money to or serious time to catch them.

These are not "hand regs". They were pending deletes that dropped and sold at highly competitive auctions, hence the prices. They show a recent creation date because of that but they were never sitting there available for the average person to hand register.

Many say domaining is a craft, an art, a technique, a crap shoot, long hard training from years in the trenches, unpredictably predictable, being at the right place at the right time, the luck of the draw, amorphous, etc., etc. BUT also it is creative and visionary. New ideas can come at any time. New terms and trends in an industry -- i,e, the CRYPTO names were hand registered first. If you think of something that no one else has thought of -- YET -- then your hand-registered idea is worth something. A lot. Every name at one point was new. Belief systems lodged in "all the valuable names have already registered" and a hand registered name has to be aged like wine (or developed) don't belong in a dynamic, entrepreneurial industry.

As far as quick and easy, I have spent hours of time in research on hand registered names - looking into trending industries, seeing what's sold, checking keyword potentials internationally, etc., etc, and sometimes just getting a whim of an idea (usually those are duds) and it is far from quick and easy. Just cheap. It is MUCH easier to peruse auctions, dropped names and just shop around. I think the distinction isn't effort but cost. If you buy a $4k name and flip it for $10K - it may be a lot quicker and easier than hand registering one at $10 and flipping it for $6k.

Oops - I didn't realize the question was "flip it the next day." Wouldn't it be dreaming to flip any domain name the next day for thousands more? It's not the hand registered element, it's the idea that a new purchase/investment at (any cost or market value) can be tripled (or whatever) in a day.

Yeah. Btm.com and 88567.com do not qualify
The two of them are qualified because they were dropped and caught they are having new dates as every other newly registered domains and that makes them newly registered domains.
Haven't you seen many domains that were dropped and caught like Btm and 88567 and not sold until now?
there are many of them abundantly. So the two of them are newly registered as as they are carrying new dates.

Agreed that valuable domains were been taking by someone, but that doe not say they no longer available; but they are very rear, mind you; one can still get them available, fresh!

Cost does not matter for hand registered in this age; see the cost of .car .cars etc a new .car domains .CAR and .cars 1 Year $2,099.00 for registration fee so also .rich, ..security etc
So cost of purchase does not matter in this context, the date of registration makes them new hand regs
