Gripe: 2nd Developer to Flake

Ive hired 2 different coders from

GetaFreelancer and RentACoder

and both simply cant do the project. They both flaked and gave up. I even had payment sitting in escrow on RentACoder and this guy wasted 5 days of my time..... absolutely killing me.

Anyone else had this problem with these overseas guys?

some overseas people are really flakey. it's like that they do not care, they are so far away, and the market so saturated, they can easily get a different job.

what work do you need doing? I may be able to do it (shameless plug!, plus, i am overseas haha)

Was having a clone of HugeDomains<dot>com built with some modifications - Not sure its worth it for someone in the UK...

maybe find a agency around town to do it, its expensive but hell its still safer or try trusting members on boards.
*ahem SecondVersion ahem*

Yah, value wise you cant go wrong, but these guys are just terrible sometimes... Dont bid on a project you cant complete... I didnt ask for anything extra that wasnt posted on the project details - driving me up a wall.

Yes, one project at a time.

I have had the same experience with a lot of work i've outsourced overseas. On the pacific side, not Atlantic...

Hopefully you get a hold of a guy who can really reverse-engineer. PM me, i have a few contacts.

does that mean you think the UK is too expensive?

im just curious btw, i donlt want to come across as aggressive, but I've wondered this for a while now. I always seem to have to accept jobs that are half the price as I would like haha.

I have always had good luck with Guru.com

That really stinks, its always up in the air with getafreelancer IMO. You have to be very specific and layout everything like you are teaching a baby, and then you might get good service, but a lot of times the people like to run with the 50% escrow.

I lately have found that boards like this have some great people that will work to help build there portfolio for a great price. So I wish you luck with that .

Have a great day

I have had too many projects on my table lately and have paid for dev work and I am in the same boat. Money wasted. I can dev better than most of the people I have paid by the looks of it.

Let me know if you find a good developer. They don't seem to be that easy to find.

I use RentACoder and have had people flake out on me sometimes 3 or 4 on the same project. The secret is cheapest isn't always the best. The one's that will do your project for the lowest price a lot of times can't do the job. Don't get me wrong if you have no deadline go with the cheapest and if they flake out work your way up, remember you don't pay until you're satisfied. It does piss me off though that they waste everyone's time with bids on jobs they can't do and then hesitating to tell you they can't do it.

If you are looking for some website coding, I am entering the business. My full-time job is as a Programmer/Developer (mostly VB6 and .NET), but I am starting to branch off and do side work as an xHTML/CSS coder.

I am a great coder, I just lack in the design department. Let me know if you are interested. I will do it somewhat cheap as I need the money, and I don't have anything under my belt. PM or email - [email protected].

Its crazy how cheap some of those rentacoder offers get. People say they would do something like a complete unique ebay/youtube clone for less than $100.

I say when dealing with website like that you need to request for a reference or good examples of previous work. Often when a price is too good to be true then it is.... too good to be true.
