Hi,

Can you guys please give me your opinions on .tv names that contain dashes? For instance, Peep-Show.tv or something less adult.

I found a great name, don't know what to do

Thanks

Probably wouldn't bother with it, sucks out a very large % of value 99%+ I would say.

Depends on the domain-name and your unique development plans ... but, generally, I'd advise strongly AGAINST registering it! :guilty: :imho:

Best of Luck,

I think developing on a hyphen would be a mistake unless the site expects purely search engine visitors and little repreat traffic.

I was thinking for SEO with the complement hyphen ... of course, while also securing & developing the non-hyphenated version as the main site / brand IMHO. :gl:

Good stuff!

Ok, so I'll take that as a NO! Thanks. The word is heavily searched as one word, but I too think the dash kills it. Thanks again

I think it would be only useful for SEO. If you can get the non-hyphen why even bother witht he hyphen?

What do you mean by "one word", is the hyphen artifical? ie on-line.tv type thing?

What if it's clear that competing giant companies have each bought up the dot net, info, us and are redirecting them to their corporate sites?

A hypenated .tv is an awful long way down the pecking order.

It's really a compound word. Like, Sports-Book.

I might develop and optimize (SEO) the hyphened version a bit differently, and more generically, in order to complement and increase eyeballs/business for the main site/brand; I agree that the main non-hyphened would be the priority in this context. :gl:

Are you bordering on registering potential โ„ข hyphened domain names (in the ".TV")? :red:

No, very generic

No, very generic

'Generic' would be better ... but, as mentioned, don't bother here in the ".TV", as I highly doubt they'd be interested in acquiring them from you in this narrow niche ccTLD, IMHO. :guilty:

The long tail has room to accomodate everybody in this dynamic and expanding extension, chgo, but serious thought should be given to hyphens.

If it is actually part and parcel of the word involved, that is acceptable but care must be given to "throw-in" hyphens just because of the name. Rule of thumb might be if it isn't a name with a hyphen here, it probably won't fly in cyberspace, regardless of extension used.

Thanks everyone. I don't see myself going for it. Thanks for the advice.

I understand that you have decided not to go for it because of the hyphen issue. Good decision!

I would definitely advise against it myself.

Once in a while I look up 1 or 2 absolute killer .TV 2 worders with a dash, and think I might reg it, but I never do. I regged one upon entering domaining, but let it drop. It was not worth it, just a rookie mistake.

I do believe there are a few that could work, but not many.

Actually a .Tv NP-er here regged something like Car-sales, or used-cars.tv and in his appraisal thread I said he wouldn't even get reg fee for it, and I believe he sold it for about 30-40-ish so it IS possible. Not earth shattering at all, but too much of a risk, IMO.

just be careful if you decide to change your mind.

Having said that, In this extension we are still very early, and things are heating up quickly. There still are a bunch of incredible tv reg fee domains out there, and don't forget to check out the .TV Marketplace here. Some of these tv's owned by members here, you can really grab for a great price.

Good Luck to you,
Vito.

14 years and at least one video revolution isn't early. What has heated up quickly is the reseller market for premium names due to pricing changes, it doesn't go beyond that.

...it doesn't go beyond that.

...and it doesn't have to.

The trend is starting at a steady and relatively rapid pace, names are being bought, sites are being erected, the extension is healthier than it has ever been and is developing admirably.

heads are turning and people are beginning to take notice. I'll assume the role of augur for the moment and take these signs as a positive one for .tv.
