Hi,

I own a couple of good adult .tv's with very highly searched keywords, they are wasted sitting parked while i am working on other developed sites so i was thinking of getting my assistant to build a quick site for them.

I was thinking something like Freeporn.tv , basically an adult affiliate site.

What i was wanting to know from any of you guys who have built adult sites before is: How hard is it to get traffic, what is the conversion rate like for the affiliate advertisers. Also do you have any advice, hints & tips to give from your experiences.
I have read lots of info on developing adult sites from other sites but i'd really like personal experiences from any of you who have tried something like this before.

Thanks

Ronnie
** I know this is not strictly .tv related but i trust the .tv forum members much more than anyone else when asking for advice. Also it is .tv sites i will be developing so it is kind of .tv related.
If anyone is offended by this post as it is talking about adult sites then i am sorry. :)

I think the first thing you want to do is make sure you are covered if you go down the adult road.

IMO do not use any mention of teen porn even 18 to 19 it is scrutinized and you can face a lot of problems if there is any mention of anything related to underage.

Make sure you have http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/18_USC_2257 properly stated. It does not matter if you are in Scotland the domains you regged are at a US registrar so you can have problems if you have anything that violates this. It is problems you do not want.

I would develop in a way that you have full control over the content. Making sure there is no illegal content on your website.

Now from a business standpoint ? what will be unique about your sites ? There is a ton of free porn, some stats show 1 out of every 4 searches everyday is for porn. So you do have a big audience. You need to be fresh though, go with a niche and stick to it.
BE careful you are dealing with a reputable affiliate program. Lot of scum out there.
I appreciate you place the .tv forum #1 for info but you are much better spending time at www.gfy.com That is the place to learn, be kept up to date with news, programs, scams and everything else.

Best of luck Ronnie my advice is to just be careful of the content.

would you do the same equity if you were making a mini site with just links for a parking page?

What I would say Dottie is there are a lot of things you need to be careful with Adult sites, I am not an expert but I read alot and I do not own one porn site or have any intention of I prefer risque or sexy but not porn. But I follow what goes on there and I see some parking companies have banned the keyword teen for adult related I read a thread on Fabulous last year about this.

I think gfy.com is the best place to find all the info good and bad. Best affiliate programs, best free galleries.

This was in 2006

Every page on a commercial website that contains sexually explicit material will be required to include a warning label to protect web users inadvertently finding it, under proposals announced by US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales yesterday.

A new piece of legislation, the Child Pornography and Obscenity Prevention Amendments of 2006, was sent by the Bush administration to Congress the same day. It primarily seeks to protect children and target those who prey upon them, but other elements were criticised today by an industry body that battles for free speech.

In his address to the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, Gonzales gave a graphic description of some of the criminal evidence his office has seized to justify the need for tighter laws. "I think it's time to deliver a wake-up call about the true nature and the scope of this criminal activity, the depth of the depravity, and the harm being inflicted upon innocent children," he said.

The full details of the new law had not been revealed at the time of writing. Gonzales said it will help ensure that ISPs report the presence of child porn on their systems by strengthening the penalties for failing to report it. But this appears to stop short of requiring ISPs to monitor their systems. Instead, according to an accompanying Department of Justice statement, "the legislation would triple the current criminal fines levied against providers for knowing and wilful failures to report, making the available fines $150,000 for the initial violation and $300,000 for each subsequent violation."

Warning labels will be required on every page of legal adult porn sites. The detail of this requirement was not revealed. In addition, the legislation would prohibit such sites "from initially displaying sexually explicit material without further action, such as an additional click, by the viewer". There is some ambiguity in the department's statement: does every page require an additional click – or just the homepage?

The legislation will also ban porn sites from hiding innocuous terms in their code or meta tags so that a search for common terms yields links to the porn site. The law would prohibit an individual from knowingly acting with the intent to deceive another into viewing obscene material, and also prohibits an individual from knowingly acting with the intent to deceive a minor into viewing material harmful to the minor.

The Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA), an industry body that works to protect children from objectionable material while preserving free speech on the internet, welcomed the measures to protect children; but "vigorously opposed" the Government-mandated labelling system.

"ICRA strongly believes that self-regulation of legal internet content leads to the best balance between the free flow of digital content and the protection of children from potentially harmful material," CEO Stephen Balkam said today. He warned that US-based servers will simply move offshore, "to avoid this well intentioned, but fatally flawed law".

ICRA's self-labeling system is applicable in any language. Parents can use filtering software to allow or disallow access to websites based on the information declared in the label. "A nationally mandated system like the one proposed today for sites with sexually explicit material cannot guarantee international compliance."

thanks ray in your thoughts and comments...i own a few nice porn names that are probably end up being developed(non teen related)

best of luck ronnie....keep us posted.....you have a lot of nice names for sure...now that you have the property(domain) that was the first step.....I am in the same boat some...i am exploring things in this area and its a huge market.

its easy to draw an audience and content is key...then bandwith and controling your web hosting expenses are the next big issue....

cheers,

jeff

ps..its all about numbers....itds like a saleperson going on cold calls..the more people you will see, the more accounts you will have....or a are lot or dealership. the more walk in people you have, the more sales you will have.

the problem with porn is the retention rate and sign ups are so low from my understanding on things...you need huge amounts of traffic to convert from my understand.

i also suggest you read the adult section and site area. you can learn a lot by reading peoples sites for sale.....

i am hopping to have a few sites off the ground by april in this area..

Oh you are welcome Dottie, and I want to say again I am no expert, I just focus on the risk of adult, I firmly believe you are into that area or you are not. Its hard to do as just a whim. BUT GFY IMO is the best resource anyone can use.

I can make you a really nice gallery site, you know with the little square thumbnails. They are quite easy. You can choose either, PPC which is like a percentage of a penny each click, but the average user may click several hundred times, so it evens out. Or you can choose to be an affiliate and get paid even when someone signs up for the $1, 3 day trial. some companies have a hybrid system which I have never used. The sites are self updating if you use the "free hosted galleries" though your percentage of profits are smaller, it is much easier to set it and forget it.
