Well, I have been out of work for a couple months now and things dont look good at all in my feild. I'm a union operating engineer and when working make a very comfortable living. I over the past few weeks have called just about every union hall in the U.S and everyone of them has alot of guys laid off.
Remember the sale of CityCenter.com for $72,250? Well thats a 7.4 billion dollar project. The largest privately financed project in U.S history. Cost 10 times what the hoover dam did even with the dams costs inflated to todays dollars.
There are well over 200 operating engineers from vegas and L.a working 3 shifts around the clock. Not to mention the other 4,000 construction workers from other trades. Project schedule is just over 60 months.
And yet, I still cant find a job because there is a waiting list there also that puts me to work in about 3 years.
Did somebody say recession?
As much as I hate working, I wish I had a job right now. So be thankful if you do have one and be especially thankful your not in the same racket I'm in.
