hi people,

Yesterday i was viewing the late evening news and suddenly there was a newstopic about my work.

They are going to fire 120 people of the 150 people working there. It's a factory that makes carpets and there is to much competition from China.

So after three years working there i will probably lose my job. I just promoted to chief of 5 persons. damn, damn.

Monday there is special board to talk with the people. In the weekend we don't work so monday is d-day. I assume that no one will work.

It's a f*cking weekend, probably i'm going to be wasted this evening.

:td:

regards

I dont know if i would let my work 'fire' me, I would quit if i know that they will fire me... Getting fired makes it sound like you did something bad.

And walking out of a job doesn't sound bad? Anyway being made redundant is not the same as being fired. If you are fired you generally did something to cause to be fired but being made redundant it is usually because the job you did is no longer needed (either because of a downscale or a change in working process).

Applying for a job with an employer and stating you were made redundant will not reflect badly upon a person as that employer should understand the difference between redundancy and being fired.

Quitting doesn't make u sound bad either. Im sure if you apply for another job you can say that you quit your job because your old work was going to close in a couple weeks, they wouldn't react negatively to it.

Im one of those people who want the 'final word'. Getting fired would make me feel like the company got the final word.

This is just the way i think (im sure others do to), and others would rather get fired then quit.

If I was an employer and I had a choice between someone who was made redundant or someone who walked out of a job I would be more inclined to take on the person made redundant. Walking out of a job could indicate that you would not stick the job out and as an employer I would want someone who would be committed.

Also if you walk out of a job before a redundancy you withdraw any rights to severance pay (although it is not always a huge amount). In the case of it was lpstong โ‚ฌ3500 (I personally got โ‚ฌ12,918.69). Now if you have no job to go too can you afford not to get the money?

Sorry to hear that mate. I am just starting work again on Monday after a 2.5 month enforced "break" - remember not to be discouraged - anger is a wasteful emotion. Looking for a job is a full time job - make sure you plan every day - looking through the online agencies and newspapers in the morning - applications in the afternoon. If you are a skilled tradesman, arm yourself some resumes and take trips to all the factories/plants/businesses in a certain geographical area and walk right into reception and hand it in - make a note of where you went and phone HR the next day (or the receptionist - try and get on well with her :) ) and ask if the resume was of interest. If you go at lunchtime you can often chat to some of the people who work in the plant when they are outside - ask them what it's like etc. - you never know you could end up chatting to the foreman or someone will remember you when they have a vacancy in a month.

End of sermon - keep your good spirits up - Nil Desperandum ([sic]Carborundum! )
