Hey all,

I just got an offer on a 4 letter .com. The name was not listed as for sale so the guy making the offer must have looked up my info.

He shot me an e-mail asking if it as for sale I sent one back saying I would consider offers. He replied with $300-400.

He is using a gmail account and there are no Google results for it so I don't have any idea what he may want the name for.

I don't want to scare him away but at the same time I would like more for the name. Any suggestions?

Its hard to say without knowing the name.
How much do you want for it? $1000 or more?
Counter with what you want and see what happens.

I doubt his first offer was his highest offer.
Anything over a $1000 I would play it safe and use Sedo escrow.

I had not really thought about a price for the domain name, I had planned on using it for a site when I get the time. Are 4 letter .com names still all sold, did the buyout hold?

Does Google provide any insight as to potential "end user" uses for this particular 4-letter combination?

I would make sure you've done plenty of research before selling for $300-400 because that's a pretty small price to pay for such a short .com that has special meaning to them (which I would assume it does).

Without knowledge of the name it's impossible to give any sort of advice as to a fair price to ask. Feel free to PM me the name if you want advice on that.

What does it have to do with the value of your domain ?

All I have to go on is the e-mail address, when I put it in quotes in google there are no results. The address is a name which does have a lot of results but there is no way to know of course which one of those results may be the potential buyer.

Brandable name, if you want more don't be afraid to ask. If $300 more or less isn't going to break you I'd recommend asking what you want and not have sellers remose. Otherwise if $300 will allow you to pay your rent and put food on the table...SELL!

You will never guess why the other person wants it though.

the dot net available

still need to ask for more in my opinion. Goodluck

The buyout is just a bit of info to throw back at the buyer later.

He replied with $300-400.

Thats stupid from the buyer.
Because that means 400, not 300.
If someone sends me such a reply, i know he is willing to pay 400, so what is the point to mention "300 - " haha lol

Anyway, i would counter offer

"Sorry but for that price i am not going to sell. I want minimum 1500$ for it. Otherwise i am going to keep it and use it for my own site"

A better but more risky version is simply

"sorry, but i will not sell for that price"
thats it

Then simply wait till the buyer comes up with "how much do you want then?"

I went ahead and sent him a counter offer already. We'll see how it goes.

I had a 4 letter domain (azcm.com) a short while back that I couldnt give away. Finally decided not to renew it and couldn't even get $40 on here before letting it expire.

Not even bad letters, considering Arizona is AZ. So many uses, but no one wanted it. It was one of the only times I tried to dip my foot in domaining and left a bitter taste in my mouth for it all.

Now someone is using it as Arizona Coin Market, and I am kicking myself. Still dumbfounded I couldnt get $40 for it just a few years ago.
