Hi there,
I have been sending out some emails to try and sell fastautos.us . I have said in the email i am willing to offer it for a fair and reasonable price and if they would like to make an offer they can. A car yard has emailed me back wanting to know how much i am willing to sell it for? Which to me shows he's interested. I don't quite know what sort of figure to ask for. I know us is not that big but i remember idomainbrokers saying he thought he could sell the name over and over again to caryards. Quality names are hard to find and fastautos.us is a great name on any business card.
What should my counter email be? Should i ask a certain price for it? Or should i counter with, please make an offer and that i can't reveal the sum.
Its that dilemma. Don't want to shoot back to highball and scare him off but don't want to shoot to low when the person would of paid more. And to be honest, I wouldn't want to sell this domain for early 3 figures. I think its a steal at that price for what i believe to be a very marketable name.

Can you help me out guys?
Cheers,
WhiteLion

Shoot out a highball, with repeated reassurances that you are very willing to take a large percentage off if he's willing to negotiate. My 2cents. Wait till you hear from the big boys.

There's your answer right there, Lion. Find a figure you would be comfortable at, and add 25% to leave a little bargaining room. If you'd be happy with a $400 sale, test the waters with $500.

You could always answer by naming a price that you're seeking, at the same time letting them know you're open to other offers. Keep in mind that if you even mention the possibility of other offers, your "seeking" price should have some wiggle room for you to come down to a fair price.

Everyone wins in the end. You get a price that's fair to you and the buyer feels like they got a great deal. Good luck with your negotiations!

Thanks for the advice guys, what do you think of this follow up letter?

$xxxx – negotiable .
Being a marketable and memorable domain name there has already been quite a few offers made. However, at this stage our company remains open to all offers. Due to other commitments and time constraints if the domain is not sold for a negotiated price within the fortnight, the domain simply will be sold to the person or company with the highest offer at the end of the fortnight. If you would like to make an offer please do.

regards
etc etc.

I say $500, tell him to take it or leave it. ( They'll always buy!)

Looks good, WL! :tu:
Personally, I would go with an "Asking price" of $325 - $450+ negotiable (and published within the contents of that reply). Give them something (range) "firm" they can work with, IMHO. The "fortnight" and "call to action" seem a bit rigid ... I would alter that to " ... If you would like to make an offer please do so at your soonest possible convenience." Something along those lines, as I see it.
Best of Luck here.

We wish!

Leave room for further negotiations, as mentioned, and IMHO.

I agree with coolhost, this is really quite good save the "fortnight". It opens the chance that you *might* get the domain at a higher price than you'd expect and also opens the door to lower bids. If the person is interested, you'll probably get a response asking what the highest bid you've received so far is at.

As an aside, here's a copy of a response I received earlier this week from someone I requested a selling price for.

Dear Sir.

I am Dr.SELLER, the CEO in somedomain.com.

This domain has been bought for my future business related to company_name several years ago.(at the price of $1,900USD)
So, Originally , not for sale.

Frankly speaking, I have been offered several times. A company
suggested upto $2,500USD. But, I rejected his offer. because I could
not give up this domain at that price.
Recently, We bought super domain at the price of (over) $***,*** USD. So, Finantial status is not so good.

If you really want to have this domain and will suggest a reasonable price, We can consider to change the ownership about this domain. (because we have some plan to open new website, someotherwebsite.com, someotherwebsite.com etc).

Anyway, Thank you for being interested in my domain.
Sincerely yours.

Hello,

Would you be willing to sell widgets.com and what is your asking price?

Regards,
Chris

I would let them know that you would be willing to sell them the name for a negotiated price around a certain figure. IE: "The name can be yours for a mutually agreed upon price in the $500 range". Lets them know a ballpark figure and allows some room for movement.

Good-luck,
ST

Make sure you let them know you're open to all offers, state you've had a couple of offers and give them a ballpark figure (450-550) and that's about it I think although I think you covered all that already.
