Google: What the Heck Happened?

We were pulling the top 5 search results in two crucial terms in Google yet now we have literally dropped off the face of the map. It doesn't make sense because we held all other positions with other phrases so I know we weren't banned or anything. Other results from MSN and Yahoo stayed pretty much the same. Is there any explanation for this?

Wait it out a little and everything will be back as it was before. That is mostly the case though.

You could however do some further analysis and read though this article to see if there is anything relevant to your own situation for which you can adjust accordingly then.

Thanks Damion - I hadn't done anything I'm familiar with to change rankings but thanks for the link!

We had a little downtime the other day and perhaps that influenced it somewhat.

If site has been changed or any portions of it then also this can happen.

If the site has been down for some days then it may happen but for a little or no downtime I have never saw it happened.

Another thing is check the sites that are on top of your right now. If the SEO's are working hard on them then also this can happen. Because there are only 10 places normally on the first page. And if 10 people work harder then you then your site will be #11 no matter where it used to be.

Well it dropped out of the top 500 but it's now back at #5.
