I have a site that has quite a bit of information and some good quality backlinks. My keyword density is around 4 percent, plenty of quality information including a news section that is updated hourly.

Yet Google/MSN/Yahoo do not have me listed for my main targeted keywords anywhere in the first 16 pages. They do have me listed on the 3rd page for my secondary keywords.

The site has been up for almost 9 months now with content(2 years without), yet sites that have been up a lot less then mine, fewer backlinks and some nothing but ad farms manage to stay on the first 3 pages.

Some of the sites that are on the 1-3 page of searches show as low as 9 backlinks, however their main site may show 22000 backlinks. My question is this , does Google etc.. Base their search position on sub domains or the main domain for backlinks.

For example..

keyword Fun shows mysite.us/fun on the first page (just an example)
Sub domain .....mysite.us/fun ..... 9 backlinks
Main domain mysite.us ..... 10000 Backlinks

Is google baseing this sites position on the backlinks to the main domain?

Thanks for any help..

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

AFAIK, Google would give more weight to the link to the main domain, but then the PR "bleeds" onto the subpages. If the main page shows 22,000 backlinks, than quite a lot of PR would bleed onto the subpages.

Thanks, was always under the assumption that the backlinks for the page in question were what the search engine placement was based on.

For instance if the site was help.com and one of it's pages dealt with car help(www.help.com/car-help.html), a search for "car help" would be based on the backlinks for help.com along with the content on car-help.html? This is assuming that the default page for help.com only has links to all of it's help pages(cars, trucks, computers etc..).

Thanks again
