Just a Heads up for those who dont know. I am sure there are plenty who know this info. But anyways............

This is valid information............. Google has implemented a new feature which enables you to type a telephone number into the search bar and hit enter and you will be given the person's name and address. If you then hit Map at the end of your address, you will get a map to the person's house. Everyone should be aware of this!

It's a nationwide reverse telephone book. If a child gives out his/her phone number, someone can now look it up to find out where he/she lives. The safety issues are obvious, and alarming. Note that you can have your phone number removed or blocked. I tried my number and it came up along with the mapquest and directions straight to my house.

I did fill out the removal for myself, and encourage all of you to do the same. Quite scary. Please look up your number. In order to test whether your phone number is mapped, go to :

Google www.google.com.

Type your phone number in the search bar (IE 555-555-5555/your phone #) and hit enter. If you want to BLOCK Google from divulging your private information, simply click on your telephone number and then click on the removal form. Removal takes 48-hours.

Check you own number and although this may not apply to you if you have unlisted number or cell phone as primary contact, you may know someone who needs to know this.

I've tried it and it works– REMOVE YOUR PHONE. I Did

Unknowngiver --- I am not sure if it works for other countries other than the US. But yes instead of the 555# you are to replace it with your own home phone number.

As said:this may not apply to you if you have unlisted number or cell phone as primary contact

well there is always two sides of the coin to this. To benefit actual businesses vs personal home numbers. I can see a possible suit due to Google not making the public aware of this. Might or might not happen,.

It doesn't work for my number, don't think it works internationally :)

At this time what it appears is that it lists businesses and home phone numbers that did not opt to be unlisted - which can be a lot of home numbers that can be viewed.

From what I am gathering it does Not cover
1. Outside the US (until other countries try, we wont know).
2. Cell/Mobile Phones
3. Unlisted numbers

It only covers or affects those who
1. Listed Home phone numbers
2. Businesses
3. The US(unless someone outside the US tests it)

Like I posted before, if your number is an unlisted number it wont be listed in Google.

IF anything atleast people are looking and are aware of this issue.

Doesn't seem to work that good. I did some that are publicly listed and they didn't show up.

Reverse phone lookup has been available for years. I don't know why everyone is so freaked out about this.

http://www.whitepages.com/reverse-lookup

First I didnt ask Google to list me.

Second if someone has young children and there are predators that may be a little tech savy would just need to click on the map. Some of the areas have the streetview enabled can get a 360 degree view of the area we live in. Not necessary in my eyes period. Can be used for thieves as well. I see no validation for the streetview enabled for listed residences. Only use I see for it is for businesses. Which where my children reside is not.

I removed my number :)

rather than remove my number, I would just update the listing.... with my neighbor's address and the name listed as Chuck U. Farlie... HA!
