I think its completely illogical to compare two things with incredibly different purposes. Its like your comparing Mars to Jupiter. Sure there both planets but they are different in every way. In the case of .Company and .XXX, one is completely segmented for use in a particular industry, in the case of xxx its porn and the other can be used for any business looking to legitimize its online presence. Its not right to compare any ngtld to .com because they will never get to that level. However, COLLECTIVELY their use will make the internet more effecient and the quest for efficiency is what will drive this market further. I generally have a very thin portfolio of ngtlds but this is one that makes perfect sense today, tomorrow and deep into the future. If you treat and register ngtlds the same way you would .com's i.e buy 1234L and 12345N, create brandables and register single and two word combos, you won't make any money because it's simply not the same. .COM was a blank slate that allowed anyone to build whatever they wanted, however, that market is now super saturated. NGTLDs put everthing into its rightful place, much like how a computer organizes your files into different folders i.e music, videos, apps, games. This is the true purpose of ngtlds, to organize and segment the internet into different interest groups. .COM was the big bang, now galaxies and planets are being formed. You may not like it but its an unstoppable aspect of evolution. If you don't believe me, you should look into a recent youtube interview of Paul Mockapetris, the creator of the DNS, he also believes that ngtlds must be fully adopted for the internet to reach the next level of efficiency. The most important thing I've learned from watching him however, is a very simple notion...and that is that the internet waits for no one.

.company can be useful but in no way as the main website of a brand.

All the brands who buy a dot company will have the desired dot com already, they just use .company for defensive purposes or for a fad use.

It's mostly about a domain name that makes sense, not a shorter meaningless .com

Well, all domains are just a dream unless you have the right word, combination and extension. Period.

Autoinsurance.com was a traffic sale probably. does autoinsurance.company get any traffic?
Vacationrentals.com was a developed website with income not a domain sale. We don't know if they paid a premium for the domain and how much it cost. It could have been the value of the traffic and the domain as a free bonus.

Truth is domains very rarely (if ever) sell for that amount just because they are a great domain.

A lot of sales might be also fake or inflated. See business.com or privatejet.com

Everyone keeps talking about how .com is the king, no just the people with the best king .com domains like Cat.com, Gold.com, Money.com, Toys.com, Drones.com, Apps.com and great word combinations are the king holders...not people with double word junk and 50 letter .com domains that make no sense. Everything .com is not king and not the best money maker. We own many, many .com domains and will love .com forever but you can't always get what you always want in .com, let's just face it. This guy who started this thread owns Car.company I challenge anyone that's trying to throw hate his way to show that they even have a domain better than Car.company I'll wait.
