I'm puting this on honor code really, gofreepc.com: Available

If it's gets regged there is nothing I can do to stop you =P, but this is the risk I take as I start to learn the value of names. I'm trying to see what people will snatch up in a second and what quality of names I'm looking for so I can better appraise people by the relevance of terms on the name.

39 free go pc
Results 1 - 10 of about 344 for "go free pc". (0.96 seconds)

So it's search results are pitiful , and minimal other sites use the term, but I think it does flow together, and very relevent to what it means, you want a free pc, three words drops it's value by 50% probably of what value it had, we'll see though, lets see what people think.

Definitely not worth registering, unless you have a really good business plan for developing it.

I think you're missing the point. GoPC.com is valuable for a variety of reasons. It's short, snappy, very relevant, very broad in terms of what you can use it for (in other words it has excellent development potential) etc. Personally, I would not have valued it at $60k, but clearly someone wanted it for that, and fair play to them.

The differences between GoPC.com and GoFreePC.com are numerous. For instance, GoPC.com offers a wide development potential, a website could be developed for literally anything to do with PC's. GoFreePC.com offers little development potential, you're looking for someone who is willing to give away PC's for free, which i'd imagine will be rather difficult to find. GoPC.com is short, snappy and memorable, GoFreePC.com makes little sense. It really is common sense when you think about it.

First rule to learn IMO, a domain comprised of popular keywords doesn't necessarily make a valuable domain. For instance, the terms "Poker", "Music", "Cars" are all popular terms, but that doesn't mean Pokermusiccars.com will be a valuable name, in fact it's completely worthless. One of the most common mistakes I see some newbies make (I myself have only been domaining for about 2 years now so am fairly newbie myself) is through the Google search. Just because a term has however many million results, doesn't mean it's a valuable domain. Type "And If For" into google and you will receive 7 billion odd results, but who would want to register andiffor.com? What on earth will they do with it? Nothing.

Look at things from the developers perspective. Ask yourself:

Could I develop this domain? What would I use it for? Do the keywords work together? Are the other extensions taken? Who are possible end users? etc...
Use inventory.overture.com, it will give you a good guide as to what is being searched for and what is not. It is not completely reliable, as just because the keywords in a particular domain aren't being searched for, doesn't mean it isn't a valuable domain, but it does give you a good indication.

A few more things and some basic resources:

  • Snapcheck.com - Good resource for finding domains which are dropping, this used to be a bit of a secret website, but not anymore.
  • DNJournal.com - Use this! Find the top domain sales and learn from them. Will give you an indication of what's valuable and what's not.
  • Namepros.com - Excellent forum, look through it! You have all the information you'll ever need, right here! Search through the threads.
  • Ebay.com - Type in "domain names" and pick up some cheap domains to start you off, you can often pick up a bargain on ebay.
  • Inventory.overture.com - Gives you the amount of times a particular term was searched for each month.
  • End Users - Find them! Read this
  • Google - Search for information regarding the basic processes, such as the domain cycle and informative websites.
  • Whois - find a good one
  • Sedo.com - Domain marketplace, buy and sell.

I hope some of this helps, there is obviously a wealth of information to share with all newbies, but not enough space! Good luck and sorry for straying off topic! :)

I really like your comments, the point of my post were to learn just that. I'm trying to be more careful with my regged domains now to save on $. I've earned some money selling domain names and should probably stick to the methods I'm using instead of playing the available domain name speculation game. Good call though, that is why I'm playing it safe here and not registerting till I get opinions, and even if it was good and someone took it I woudn't mind, because it would of made my ability to guestimate that much better. Thanks a lot =), hopefully we can all keep improving our own domain deciding process.
