So we'll shortly see GoDaddy's superbowl ad (in fact you can see it now at Godaddy's site). What do people think about 'spreading the word' on domaining? Will more domainers be good for this business or will it hurt us?

I personally think more is better - more demand, prices go up, etc.

More people domaining, the better. However, the down side is that prices will go up so people with deep pockets (as seen on snapnames) will gobble up most of the decent domains.

I think that it can go either way, usually when more people are interested the product price goes down a bit.

Price does not go down when there are a fixed number of resources and a higher demand; the inverse is true, prices go up.

I personally have nothing against their commercial.

In my opinion, that's a great commercial and will attract many WWE fans.

As you know Candice Michelle, the GoDaddy girl is a DIVA in WWE.

And infact, WWE.com shows the commercial and updates about the ad with Candice Michelle, also during WWE Shows.

You have to remember though, that the GoDaddy commercials advertise buying domains for development. At least the last one I saw did. They don't allude to the fact that you can by domains for investment purposes only to resell them later.
It's more like "Hey you need a website".. "Get your domain at GoDaddy"

Believe me there will still be a lot of clueless people out there that can't read between the lines.

Nevertheless, there will inevitably be more people coming into domains as time goes on. I think overall it will be good. You have to really know what you're doing to get any great newly regged names in .com, and they pickings grow slimmer and slimmer in the other extensions as each day passes.
That means that if you have good domains now, people will be willing to pay more to get them from you.

The downside is that once the noobs learn how to find names it means more competition for us. But, in the end, i guess there's enough to go around.

well in my opinion it goes both ways ..

more domainers = more people to bid ..

more domainers = more domains meaning less value :)

more domainers = newbie included ... paying overprice

so benefits wins by 2-1

For owned domains it will go up for non-registered domains it will go down since we aren't at the point yet where people are worried about running out of domains because there can be many more extensions too. We are worried about running out of I.P. addresses but not domains.

Basically there is like an unlimited number of domains right now. They can be 63 characters long I'm pretty sure.

That's like 1x10^62: 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

That's almost like a Googol possibilities. Well it is if you consider other extensions than .com. I know people won't want that long but this is just an example of how many are left.

Sure enough. I didn't realize that until last night when watching "Inside Edition". They did a story on the whole GoDaddy controversy, the number of commercials rejected etc.

By the way, she's also a former Playboy Playmate. :blink:
