Consensus agrees that the make out ad with the supermodel and geek was awful.

People might remember it but for all the wrong reasons. Didn't Godaddy suggest they were moving away from provocative to professionalism?

Huffington Post Called it Disturbing.
Is Shock Value Effective?

I can see this ad being useful for publicity but long term I tend to think this will really hurt Godaddy's reach to the community outside of domainers and website owners.

.CO Commercial Might Work

Another point worth considering would be the success of the .CO commercial. This one was somewhat professional and creative. It appealed to the male audience in an easy way.

Are people going to be interested in .CO now?

I didn't see anything shocking about the 30 second commercial aired on the SuperBowl (if it was aired... Not being American, I didn't watch it). I think the 45 second internet version might shock some people. I thought their visual as it related to the punch line was mismatched at best. It could have been so much better interpreted without any/all the slobbering.

Who knows what the impact will be?

I see neither a week after the super bowl no one thinks about it, people will focus on pricing imo.

GoDaddy seems to have these type of commercials every Superbowl...
Must be doing good with them.

What is the subject of this thread? What are you talking about?

Godaddy.

The ad apparently worked. It's all about name recognition. What other registrars does the average sportsfan know about?

I think that there will be a backlash, and it won't be pretty for GoDaddy. The ad is not only gross, but it's also a stupid ad that targets the lowest common denominator of American consumerism.

JMHO.

All I know is that big Daddy spent more money to run a single crap commercial than probably all of us put together will ever make from domaining. Although the up close kissing was hard to stomach, I found myself wishing I was in goat boy's place. Also wondered if they practiced much beforehand and if it took more than five seconds for dough-boy to launch a chubby.

Godaddy just raised the awareness of .co by miles. I also texted all my friends, saying I'm the jet guy ;). Easier now to explain what i do. haah!

Actually, that is the point I'm getting at. The day after the commercial there was a lot of embaressment and poking fun at Godaddy on television and internet.

However, with the other ad, some people are now considering the .co domain. I just had a client call yesterday to ask me whether or not his business needs the .co in addition to his .com because he saw it on the Superbowl commercial.

It will be interesting to see if there is any new brand awareness with .co. It is a very tricky domain in that it messes with our head to make us feel like the words before it are so incredibly good cause all we are missing is an 'm.' We think to ourselves, what's the big difference?
