Let's do something very helpful for the community, guys:
WHOIS all your domains sold through Afternic over the past year, and publicly share here the percentage sold via GoDaddy as the registrar, Namecheap as the registrar, and others.
Most likely the registrar didn't change.

Why? Because Afternic claims a lot about their so-called "network" but we, domainers, rarely get real data about where the sales are really happening.
If most of your sales are pushed through GoDaddy, it means GoDaddy is the true engine.
If Namecheap or others are behind many sales, it proves something else.

And remember: Namecheap is about to open their own aftermarket very soon.
It could change a lot of things.

Let's stop guessing. Let's bring real numbers and help everyone make better decisions.
It's not about complaining. It's about clarity.

I start:
For me it's about 48% Godaddy, 48% Namecheap and 4% Others (some chinese registrars and so on)

What's more interesting is whether names registered at Gd will be eligible for the Namecheap distribution path when listed on Spaceship (they're ineligible when listed on Sedo).

Probably not, but many domainers don't use godaddy as a registrar but use afternic as a network

What part of doing this trivial thing is 'very helpful'?

To know how much it's better to list on new namecheap aftermarket or on Afternic if names cannot be listed on both.. before choosing a registrar for domains

Registrars usually change, for your information.
I wrote "sales of last year" bro. when acquired by an end user it usually doesn't change during the first year, and even after many years, most of them keep the same registrar, unlike us domainers ;)

I was interested to check. So Based on last year.

54% - Godaddy
46% - Other (Mix of unique registras and does not include Namecheap which was unexpected)

new namecheap aftermarket

Do you mean Spaceship? Because Namecheap marketplace is not new. And they're separate companies.

I usually share the auth code after the sale and the domain name is transferred to another registrar.

If I come to the main point; the place where the domain name is registered does not affect the sales rate. The domain name itself is valuable.

P.S: I'm not anyone's bro.

Personally nearly all of my sales are fast transfer.

Checked prior year as well for comparison:

Godaddy - 63%

NameCheap - 13%

Other - 24%

It was more interesting for me to see where my sales outside of Godaddy reg path are coming from.

Can't make any conclusions on it without using another distribution network i.e SEDO to AB test. But I suspect it would be worse due to not having Godaddy search path.

spaceship is owned by namecheap, they will launch an aftermarket like afternic where you can list domains from any registrars.. regarding your second point, I'm talking about afternic network, does it sell through godaddy or namecheap or others.. afternic network is a big netwoork of registrars and people enter the domains in godaddy and other registrars and get your listing price at afternic

Spaceship is not owned by Namecheap. Again, they're separate initiatives.

Plus, Namecheap is connected to Afternic network.

You should do more research before making claims.

What is the point of this?

If you have an Afternic sale then Knowing the change in the registrar doesn't give you complete information about the path of the sale, through Afternic's Fast Transfer, or via Godaddy landing page.

Example:

A)
Domain registered at Dynadot -> Sold at GD landing page -> New registrar Godaddy

B) Domain registered at Dynadot -> Sold via GD search -> New Registrar Godaddy

In both cases the change is:
Dynadot -> Godaddy

But in (A) it was via landing page while in (B) it was via distribution network.

Not everyone uses GoDaddy landers. Youโ€™re right, I omitted to say that this thread is only about Afternic network sales, without including GoDaddy landing page sales. I'm unable to update my post to clarify it. I hope people who wanna contribute will take it in consideration. Thanks again

Hmm, you might want to check your sources on that. Spaceship is indeed owned by Namecheap. Yes, they might operate largely as separate divisions (with different target markets), but Namecheap most certainly owns Spaceship.

Namecheap, Inc. and Spaceship, Inc. are different corporations. None of them own or branch of each other. They operate separately.

The common points are their CEO and dev/support team. But still, completely different brands, customer base and operations.

Richard is the founder of both and names listed on Spaceship (regardless of where they're registered) get entered into the Namecheap sales path (their version of Afternic fast transfer / Sedo MLS).

There is no official launch date yet, but Namecheap plans to open up a full aftermarket through Spaceship, its sister company. It will likely allow the listing of any registrar, similar to Afternic. If they execute this well, they could become a serious contender, especially considering Namecheap's huge user base and reputation in the domain community.
