Look like the auction is for expired domains and the owner renewed the name in the last minutes.

It could be anything but there is a big BUG in gd system.
The name may be transferred to a new owner but the previous owner did not delete the name from the auction?

This is a common occurrence, and I experienced it a few years ago when I won a three-letter .co domain at auction. After paying, I didn't receive the domain, and my payment was eventually refunded.

In this case, the OP received the domain, but 12 days later, it was gone (CMIIW).

edit: see following comments, I am wrong.

Member listings do not exist any more. GoDaddy sometimes run events during which non-expired domains are auctioned but they require pre-approval and do not include the option to Buy It Now. A domain being recovered after winning it at auction is typical (due to redemption) but that isn't what happened in this case given GoDaddy acknowledge some sort of "issue".

The transaction assurance team typically handle Afternic transactions. My best guess is that you weren't seeing an auction domain but an Afternic domain.
Afternic usually removes domains automatically when their ownership changes but it is possible that the process failed for some reason, and the domain remained listed despite having changed ownership. If fast transfer was enabled, then it is quite possible the domain was sold to you without knowledge of the owner.

Are you sure that this happened via GoDaddy Auctions, and not Afternic? Can you share the order confirmation? Nothing can be done to get the domain back, but it will be interesting to know what happened :)

It is worth clarifying that there was an active website on the domain. Is it possible that the owner accidentally put it up for sale? And then asked support to return the domain

Actually, I'm completely wrong. GoDaddy is syndicating Afternic inventory to GoDaddy Auctions as "Public Buy Now", e .g: https://www.godaddy.com/domain-auctions/serialmarketing-com-497350042

So, it is very possible to buy a domain from Afternic via GoDaddy Auctions, which means the common cause of this is likely to blame, the old owner's listing wasn't removed when the domain changed hands.

I guess it is theoretically possible because the GoDaddy control panel does provide a path to list a domain with Afternic but it seems exceedingly unlikely someone could accidentally put it up for sale. Even if that did happen, reversing a transaction because of a seller mistake seems quite unlikely. A possibility could be account compromise, e.g: the domain was listed for sale by a bad actor and the sale was reversed as part of recovering a stolen domain.

The key phrasing is, I think, "the listing information that triggered the sale was inaccurate and did not reflect the current verified ownership of the domain at the time of purchase". A domain remaining listed for sale by the previous owner after purchase is very common so that is a very plausible explanation. The Afternic system automatically removes old listings when a domain is sold but that process could have failed for some reason, leaving the listing active. However, that doesn't line up with this happening via GoDaddy Auctions.

So, either this happened via Afternic, in which case, not surprising, this happens sometimes, or it happened via GoDaddy Auctions, which is very surprising, no idea how or why this could happen. If it did happen via GoDaddy Auctions... I'm not sure.

That's an Afternic receipt, not a GoDaddy Auctions receipt. Are you sure this happened via GoDaddy Auctions?
I found the domain through a search on auctions.godaddy.com and purchased it by clicking Buy It Now

The "incorrect registered user" wording seems to be saying that it was a stolen domain, or a domain that was fraudulently listed as fast-transfer.
