Hello, there's this domain I'm interested in.It was on expired auction 3 days ago but I forgot to take part in it.

I checked today and the GoDaddy parked page says that it is pending renewal and deletion but doesn't say anything about an auction.

How can I contact the previous owner( who let it expire)?

I tried to use whois but records show GoDaddy except for a name in the register's contact info.

I also tried archive.org but couldn't find anything worth looking at.

if it made It through the auction without a buyer then it will likely drop, just wait for the drop. Do a Who is lookup and then add about 78 days to the expiration date, that is approximately when the domain will drop. Do check for the drop several days earlier than that, especially with new gtlds. Once the domain shows as pending delete, look at the updated date, it should drop about 5 days after the updated date, but again, check everyday at that point or put in a backorder at drop catch or Dynadot.

Hello I think I should contact auctions support to know if it had a bid and Why should I wait for 78 days as was able to get 2 previous expired domains after 10-14 days of the auction.

I don't think they're obligated to share that info with you, but its worth a shot I suppose. for the 78 days, that is from the actual expiration date, not the end of the expired domain auction. If you want to contact the current owner, by all means, but that is not the most cost efficient way to acquire an expired domain (unless you project that it will get multiple back orders and a high auction price), it could bite you right in the ass :)

Go Daddy expired auctions are heavily patrolled by domainers, if a name makes it out without a bidder, it is a good indication that the name will drop without heavy backorder competition.

In fact Godaddy expired auctions are so heavily patrolled, that domain owners that couldn't find a buyer for a low xxx price for their domain will wait and see what the Godaddy expired auction brings in for the name, as it is a great avenue for finding buyers. That is why it is very common for expired domain auctions to be won on Godaddy for a solid amount, only to see the owner pay the fees to renew their expired name. It is worth it because they then know they can find buyers. I highly recommend that domainers with expired domains through GoDaddy, keep a close eye on the expired auction for there names. I've even heard of domainers purposely letting names expire at GoDaddy to see what it gets at expired auction.

Buy hey, if you have had success with your proposed method before, by all means, just look up the owners info at domainiq.com

25 days after the domain expires the domain will be able to be bid on for 12 dollars at godaddy expiring auction ,if no one bids in a few days it will go to closeout first stop is 11 bucks plus reg 9-14 for the next 11 months ,after the winning of the domain in closeout or expiring action the old owner has about 43 days[from the original expiration} to recover for 80 bucks plus renew. If your lucky enough to get your domain ,do wait till it hits your account before you start asking questions about it.Someone who is bitter may contact the old owner and give him the scoop. Good Luck

If you did miss the auction ,go to whoisology . com they usually have the old owner about 6 months back

Then why don't you apply the same strategy with this domain? You could try the whois history at domaintools.com, or for free, but not always as accurate, iirc, whoisology.com

Good news on your previously searched domain(s).
Not long ago, one or more of the domains you searched for showed as unavailable. We've just learned that the status has changed to "available" for the following domain(s)*:

This is actually my favorite email to receive.
