GoDaddy = Expensive renewal fees

My domain name only costed approx $6.95 + $1.95 private when I first registered my domain name last year through GoDaddy.

The fees to renew through GoDaddy:
$9.20 registration + $8.99 private

What are my other options for $10/domain including privacy?

its a great place for newbies to start, and I am sure manhy have started there.
Other than that, stay away if you are a seriously into domains.
GD is for the casual user, not for the wholesale dealer.
Moniker is IMHO the best in the market at this moment, although I own a very small percentage of my domains there because of a CC problem (outside the US that was caused a few years ago and is now solved).
Regardless, I can not stress how much I think Moniker is above the rest.
The definitive registrar to avoid (and I can back it up If provoked by them) is regfly.

but it is not a "bad" thing. Their business model is pro beginners.
it is what they want. it is their market.
the factors are many.
GD is great for beginners.

not to mention their cryptic interface with the amazing mazes which makes the author of the Davinci Code look like an amateur.............

apart from the major factors you mention.

1) unsupported C&D. They can stop you because they feel like it. you like that?
2) the interface for managing multiple domains is disastrous...
try managing 1000 domains at GD.... HOPELESS.....
the interface is annoying even when you get to the 'expert mode'.

you want support as an example? try Moniker, or even Enom.

The owner of GD is politically motivated (IMHO)....
