GoDaddy Backorder or GoDaddy Auction

Recently I am interested in purchasing a domain which expires in Augest. Maybe I'm too early to ask...

The domain that I am interested (say abc.com) is registered via Godaddy,(which is famous for holding domains), and I am going to backorder it.

However, I have two questions to ask:
1) Should I backorder it or simply purchase it in the Godaddy Auction?
2) Which backorder provider (namesnap, etc.) should I choose? Should I choose Godaddy? Their price ($19.95) seems to be lowest among the market.

I hope my questions can be answered and I am looking forward to hear from you(yes, that's you!) soon.

If the domain is at GoDaddy it will go to auction no matter what you do. Your backorder will simply cost you far more than the starting price of the domain in auction.

For names at Network Solutions and Enom, use Namejet for a prerelease auction. For names at GoDaddy, use GoDaddy Aftermarket auctions. The only time you would use a backorder provider for a name at a different registrar is if the name is in pending deletion status.

So mark your calendar for end of August and start looking for the name to show up on GoDaddy Aftermarket Auctions.

Oh thanks for your reminder and just saw this:"All backordered domains will go to auction and may have multiple bidders. "

So the Godaddy auction is the only way for purchasing it?

I assume the domain name in question is an LLL.COM, if u wait for it to be listed under godaddy auction u might have to shell out atleast Mid $x,xxx-$xx,xxx if that's not an issue u may choose the latter one.

Thanks for your reply but all expired Godaddy will drop to godaddy's auction(aftermarket) section, isn't it?

If it expires. It will go to Auction at GoDaddy. So no need to backorder it, you think. But if you Backorder it, it also goes to Auction at GoDaddy. If more than 1 person Backorders it, I understand it goes to a private Auction at GoDaddy. so I'd say backorder it 19 days after expiry (if it expired), because after that date the original owner has to pay GoDaddy's Redemption Fee. If it's a desirable name 1) it's unlikely not to be renewed (so useless to Backorder it before it expires), 2) if it goes to Auction it's likely to cost more than the Backorder Fee. But for me, I'd backorder it 19 days after expiry and watch for it in the GoDaddy Auctions approx 32 days after expiry.

Do you mean that if multiple users back order an Godaddy-registered domain the domain will still enter private auction?

Yes. That's my understanding. I've not personally experienced that yet though. I'm sure this is true... because how would they list it on their auction site with two bidders making exactly the same bid (backorder price).

Also. If it's going to be renewed, the owner is sure to do it before the domain is taken out of their account on Day 18. They can still renew after that (up to day 45) but they will have to pay GoDaddy's redemption fee.

Okay... So I will backorder it after 18 days, however I'd ask does it mean that I do not need to pay the bid (which is automatically placed mentioned here:All backordered domains go through an auction process. If you are the first to backorder a specific domain, we will use your backorder payment to place the opening bid - no additional charges are made. However, there may be multiple people who have backordered the same domain. If you are not the first person to backorder a domain, you will be notified when the domain goes to auction.)?

PS: WOW the backorder price has been reduced to $16.99 today... should I purchase an credit today?

If I choose to bid it @ godaddy auctions, is my total cost=
$5(Membership Fee)+$5(Minimum Bid)+$10.69(.com renewal), or can I move the domain away? Otherwise the backorder service seems to be cheaper....

I've told you what to do. You can take my advice or not. If you are the only backorderer then yours will be the first bid at the GoDaddy auction and it will be open to all bidders. If there is more than 1 backorderer, then it goes to a private auction. I can't add any more apart from stress not to backorder before day 19 after expiry. Of course, if this was not a desirable name (ie nobody else is likely to backorder it at GoDaddy), then my advice would be different. then I'd just wait for it to appear in the GoDaddy Auction, and bid in the last seconds of the auction.
