GoDaddy Auctions -- Discussion, Acquisitions, and Sales

I searched the forum and could not find a thread dedicated solely to Godaddy auctions, which seem to be heating up lately.

I envision this thread as a place for discussion regarding YOUR sales and acquisitions, and general discussion about the auction venue itself, and, perhaps, some domain oddities that are popping up on the auction site, for example, high-priced domains that should be regfee.

:)

One caveat, though: for your own good, PLEASE do not reveal your auction win (or anyone else's, for that matter) until the domain has landed in your account because the original owner still has the option to renew it, and I know how vexing that can be. In other words, don't count your chickens until they're hatched.

On the other hand, if you're having second thoughts about your auction win, by all means tell us all about it.

I suppose that if an auction win is high profile, it's already out there, but, still...

Anyway, I'll start with three comments:

1. I won my first (and maybe last) intentional typo, and it's getting clicks (no $ so far, though): Forwx.com. I could not find a live TM on this term, but one never knows. I have mixed feelings about this one.

2. I accidentally clicked on a BIN that I didn't want (I wanted the one above it), but I decided to honor the bid anyway. Grrr..., so be careful before hitting the submit button. It's not in my account yet, so I can't really reveal it right now.

3. Currently, there's a weird .co domain at over $9,000, with three bidders duking it out. Again, I don't want to reveal what it is, but if you go to the most active auctions, it's number 1 (as of this posting).

Mods, I hope this thread is okay.

:)

It's about what I suspected. They don't want to tell you the real whole reason they took your domain away. F*ck them. I've always said that I think GoDaddy are NOT a domainer friendly registrar. It's the main reason I moved away from them about 3 years ago. I recently lost the database of my domains. I recreated it in 1 day. If my domains had been at GoDaddy, it would have taken about 2 months to recreate it with their stupid 100 whois lookups a day rule (or something a little over that).

Now try to pull the same stunt and back out from an auction or a sale. I guess your account would be terminated right ? :)

I don't know why they do this.
It make their reputation bad in domainer eye.

How much they can get from that domain, and I believe more they do this, more people leave godaddy.

I don't get it. Why would you need to perform whois lookups to recreate your list of domains? From within a Godaddy account, you can generate a csv file containing the full list of your domains and including everything that you would find in whois plus additional information and have it all in a couple of minutes.

Because I use a database which requires putting in only the domain name, and does not allow you to put in all the other data, afaik. It collects all the other data by doing whois lookups.

Ok, I get it now. You're talking about that domain portfolio script ( can't remember the exact name). I think the problem is with the script itself because it's not necessary to query Godaddy whois to get expiry/creation date info. That data can be retrieved from verisign. You only need Godaddy if you're trying to retrieve contact information for a domain. I know because I run my own script that collects creation/expiry dates on a couple of thousand Godaddy domains through whois every day and it gets done in about 10 minutes.

Getting back to the main topic... For me, the biggest argument in favor of using Godaddy is their premium domain listings. They're expensive at 30% commission but my experience is that premium listings outperform every other selling venue by a wide margin. I don't know why, but listing on Godaddy auctions hasn't been anywhere nearly as effective.

anyone ever get "The recipient's contact information can't be used to register the selected domains." when trying to push a domain to another person on godaddy?

I got two offers for a LNL .com domain name on GoDaddy auction today.

I was really anxious and clicked to see:
20$
25$

At least it shows two persons had some interest. :)

I need the other information not supplied by Verisign as well.

Several times. Typically, but not always, it means they have changed their email address used with their account, or some other part of their account information. Although, I have also encountered this when recipient is registered in another country.

First, ensure you have the email addy and customer# correct (verify they provided you with their "current" info). If using their email addy and cust# [or username - try both] does not work with the option "Use details from specified customer account" then try the "Enter new details" option, and manually push the name. Just be sure to have all their [current] information correct.

If still having trouble a quick call to GD customer service should rectify the issue, as they are generally able to verify the problem and assist with the name push.

GD auctions help

Recently, when trying to watch a listing on GD auctions, I click the

EYE icon to watch the name and the system keeps taking me back

to the sign on screen. I'm already logged in. I have a auction

subscription on the account I'm logged in with until 6/2014. It's a loop

that never lets me watch the domain. I even changed my password

on the account because of the problem and still no luck.

Any suggestions?

I had a similar issue yesterday. I was waiting until the last 10 minutes to bid on a name. I was logged in to my account but whenever I tried to place a bid the system wanted me to sign I to my account. I never was able to bid and the auction ended a couple hundred below where I was going to take it.

I sent an email to a godaddy rep and will let you know what I hear.

I was using an Android phone, how about you?

My issue was while using a PC at work and now at home.

I'll try a bit longer and then call like Master suggested.

If anyone figures out the answer, please post.

Thanx everyone!
