GoDaddy Auctions -- Discussion, Acquisitions, and Sales

I searched the forum and could not find a thread dedicated solely to Godaddy auctions, which seem to be heating up lately.

I envision this thread as a place for discussion regarding YOUR sales and acquisitions, and general discussion about the auction venue itself, and, perhaps, some domain oddities that are popping up on the auction site, for example, high-priced domains that should be regfee.

:)

One caveat, though: for your own good, PLEASE do not reveal your auction win (or anyone else's, for that matter) until the domain has landed in your account because the original owner still has the option to renew it, and I know how vexing that can be. In other words, don't count your chickens until they're hatched.

On the other hand, if you're having second thoughts about your auction win, by all means tell us all about it.

I suppose that if an auction win is high profile, it's already out there, but, still...

Anyway, I'll start with three comments:

1. I won my first (and maybe last) intentional typo, and it's getting clicks (no $ so far, though): Forwx.com. I could not find a live TM on this term, but one never knows. I have mixed feelings about this one.

2. I accidentally clicked on a BIN that I didn't want (I wanted the one above it), but I decided to honor the bid anyway. Grrr..., so be careful before hitting the submit button. It's not in my account yet, so I can't really reveal it right now.

3. Currently, there's a weird .co domain at over $9,000, with three bidders duking it out. Again, I don't want to reveal what it is, but if you go to the most active auctions, it's number 1 (as of this posting).

Mods, I hope this thread is okay.

:)

Utomo,

Yeah, this is the Go Daddy message you get when they don't know what the hell they're doing.

You'll have to keep after them.

I just heard from my rep, and this is what he had to say:

I tried to dig as much as I could regarding this issue of islamDaily.com, I spoke to Pam Bunn, however she told me she could not disclose the details of this issue with me since its above my threshold. She did state that whatever information she provided to Utomo was as much information as she can provide without violating company policy.

Just as I thought.

I'm not blaming my rep or anyone else at his level in the Go Daddy organization, but this corporate attitude of, "I'm going to take your domain away from you, and I'm not going to tell you why, even though we violated our own TOS," is complete BS.

However, the only option I can see is for someone (not necessarily Utomo) who has experienced this clawback after 43 days would be to sue Go Daddy.

I can't reveal details, but I do know someone who sued GD successfully (unrelated issue), so it can be done.

I ask here

http://support.godaddy.com/help/art...s-for-handling-expired-domain-names?locale=en

My question:
How if the 45 days limit already pass.
can the old owner renew it ? and Godaddy cancel the winner of the auction ? (after transaction complete)

and Godaddy reply to me:

Support Staff Response
Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you contacting Online Support

I understand you are asking about you domain on your auction purchase. In order to properly review this, we will need to know which domain name you are referring to. Once we have the domain name, we can review the current status of this domain.

Please let us know if we can assist you in any other way.

Regards,

Kurt P.

What is the meaning ?
Is the Rules depend on the domain name ?

Lets say Godaddy move on day 42 or 43 to new account.
Godaddy contact me 7 days after that.

It already over the 45 days limit. It is 49 or 50 days.
so Godaddy must not take the domain.
My friend say they also get same problem as me. and it is one week after the transaction complete.
same as my case.
and then the domain set privacy protect. so we did not know if it is own by old owner or sold to someone else or own by godaddy

You should get past the thought that GoDaddy should not take your domain, because they can do whatever they like with the domain, because of the exceptions.

What does Domain Tools History say about the registrant before and after this incident. If it had privacy before, it's not surprising to find it has privacy now.

Everybody, please read Godaddy email:

This is to inform you that the domain name ISLAMDAILY.COM was awarded to your account in error. Due to the error, we will be returning the domain to the original registrant and will refund you for the purchase. We do apologize for any inconvenience this misunderstanding may have caused

But what is the error ?

It was in error because it should not have been awarded to you because it was renewed by the original registrant on day 45. I know their systems should be faultless, but I have never seen a faultless system dealing with so many transactions. Look at the Obamacare website fiasco :)

Hi Stub,

The ones which changed to privacy is my friend case.
I did not know the who.is before.

I agree that a system is not 100% free from fault.
But if it is repeated and they did not say and give good compensation and just take the domain is not good for customer.

I recently acquired iRaze.com.

I created its own sales landing page.

It would make a great site for a demolition company.

My comment was not just for your friends case. It was to find out if your domain has the same registrant before and after. You should both check that out.

I'm in total agreement with your claims. I support you 100% that you should be given a full explanation of what actually happened. I've been in a similar position with GoDaddy. They took a domain away from me. When I finally got an explanation, it was simply a trademark infringement. Since when is "Daddy" a trademark domain. It proved that GoDaddy was still warehousing domains when their public statements were they were not warehousing domains.

Thanks stub and others for the support.

Daddy is common word, and is not trademark in my opinion.
if they want to claim it, why they auction it ?
I try to search for daddy on auction and it has many result there.

Latest update:
Again I got this email. With Different number. Why they change the number ?
and until when I must wait ?
What I can do now beside waiting ?

Just read through everything, I think Utomo has been wronged by GoDaddy. That is scary if GD can take back domains after they've been in your account for 7 days.

I just won a name and have hosting with GoDaddy. I tried to set up the hosting for the name I won and received the good old "This domain is already assigned to an account" error. Usually I call in and thy fix it, but after reading about Utomo's case, I'm scared to call in. How long do we need to wait to feel safe that a name is ours? I'm going to wait a couple weeks before getting my issue resolved.

Utomo, good luck. Keep fighting until at least you get a real answer as to what happened. It's really nice of everyone to come together to help you. This issue affects all of us.

Utomo,

There was a system error, and you were offered compensation in the form of two years free registration. No other compensation will be offered or presented.

There is nothing you can do, short of taking Go Daddy to court. If you don't want to sue, you'll have to move on and forget about it.

I think it stinks that you didn't even get an explanation, but sometimes life is just plain unfair.

I fully believe in Karma, and I do feel that Go Daddy will someday tick off the wrong person (one with deep pockets) and get bitten in its corporate posterior.

I do feel for you, Utomo.

Dear Utomo Widjaja,

Unfortunately this domain was part of a system error and is no longer available. As stated before the only option we have is to offer another two year registration of any .com, .net or .org domain as a courtesy. Please contact our support department directly at [email protected] once you have decided on the domain you would like to receive.

The registrant info is still in your name (on Go Daddy Whois).

Is the domain still in your panel? In other words, do you still have control of it?

I'm wondering if your refusal to accept the two-year registration consolation prize is holding them up from transferring it to anyone else.

If you have control of it, you could always try unlocking the domain and asking for the Auth code (EPP) for a transfer out.

A bit underhanded, but Go Daddy hasn't exactly played fair with you.

I've never been a big fan of GoDadddy, it's a shame that so many people use them. I also feel obligated to buy domains through GoDaddy just to make the domain transfer process easy to any buyers I have.
