GoDaddy Auctions -- Discussion, Acquisitions, and Sales

I searched the forum and could not find a thread dedicated solely to Godaddy auctions, which seem to be heating up lately.

I envision this thread as a place for discussion regarding YOUR sales and acquisitions, and general discussion about the auction venue itself, and, perhaps, some domain oddities that are popping up on the auction site, for example, high-priced domains that should be regfee.

:)

One caveat, though: for your own good, PLEASE do not reveal your auction win (or anyone else's, for that matter) until the domain has landed in your account because the original owner still has the option to renew it, and I know how vexing that can be. In other words, don't count your chickens until they're hatched.

On the other hand, if you're having second thoughts about your auction win, by all means tell us all about it.

I suppose that if an auction win is high profile, it's already out there, but, still...

Anyway, I'll start with three comments:

1. I won my first (and maybe last) intentional typo, and it's getting clicks (no $ so far, though): Forwx.com. I could not find a live TM on this term, but one never knows. I have mixed feelings about this one.

2. I accidentally clicked on a BIN that I didn't want (I wanted the one above it), but I decided to honor the bid anyway. Grrr..., so be careful before hitting the submit button. It's not in my account yet, so I can't really reveal it right now.

3. Currently, there's a weird .co domain at over $9,000, with three bidders duking it out. Again, I don't want to reveal what it is, but if you go to the most active auctions, it's number 1 (as of this posting).

Mods, I hope this thread is okay.

:)

Yeah noticed that Lennco I am surprised because talking to Paul, 10 minutes was considered short, they were thinking about making it longer than 10 minutes.

Meanwhile dynadot doesn't extend at all which allows for snipers to grab at the last second :td:

Lennco they got intrigued by the extended auction times with the .info and .org auctions. They extended by one hour. The thinking is that it will make it better for the bidders to have more time to bid, if someone has a job they have more than two minutes to get a notification email and place another bid.

For some bidders they maybe correct, but I think fo the mass majority of bidders it would be a major inconvenience and might turn away a lot of them.

Hey now, I resemble that remark ;)

Yeah just watched someone lose mobileware.com to a bid with 3 seconds to go. I'd be pissed off if it was me.

Anyhow, there should be a happy medium like adding 5 minutes for example.

Was that on Dynadot Keith ?

I wouldn't be against 1 minute or 1:30 but anything over is just a waste. You can always set a proxy bid but I don't really trust that I'm bidding against a real person lol.

I'm intrigued by godaddy auctions. Red-union.com is now over $1,000. Wouldn't fetch $50 here...

We might not know what its apparent Russian development was in the past. Much more likely that enduser types participate with a godaddy auction than np. But what is interesting is no offers on the non hyphen with $1300 starting offer price

Anyone else hating the new pop up page when placing a bid?

Once again it was perfect before now we have to wait for a page to pop up and then is takes us away from our bidders list so we then have to click to get back to our bidders list.

And you have to do this every time you place a bid.
Very frustrating.

Yes, it is very annoying. It really slows down the ability to place a quick bid, or bids, from one screen.

This is less of an issue on my home setup, but is a major issue on my phone, where I do much of my bidding.

$20.67 is the cheapest you can go with .coms (and $20.17 for the .nets) on a GoDaddy expired auction, right? Or is there a way you can get them even cheaper?

Thanks.

You can take a chance and wait until the domain becomes a $5.00BIN and snag it for $13.67.

But that's risky.

That's as low as I've been able to get it with a promo code that applies only to the renewal.

$12 (if you are the only bidder), + $8.49 + 0.18

If it's a name you really want I would suggest paying the extra money to get it before someone buys it under your nose.

When I want a name from the closeouts I just purchase it up front instead of waiting days to save a couple dollars and risk the chance of losing it.

Thanks. Just wanted to check if there's maybe a discount code that I'm not aware of or something.

Yeah I am aware of GoDaddy closeout and agree it is risky if it's a domain you really want.

Thanks.

If you subscribe to Godaddy's investor's edge program ( $29.99/mth or typically about $20/mth with use of a coupon ) You can place a backorder on prerelease domains for $14. That includes the starting bid and a one year renewal. When you place the order, your bid shows up as $10 even though you paid $14 and even though it says the starting bid is supposed to be $12.

If other people bid against you then, in addition to the backorder fee, you also have to pay the difference between your winning bid and the $10 starting bid. So, let's say the auction ends at $50, you owe Godaddy an additional $40 which means your total cost will be $54. Note that you can only use a backorder if you're the first bidder.

Sorry if this seems confusing, but the the bottom line is that you can get domains for $14 instead of $20.67 with the "investor's edge" plan.
