Unstoppable Domains โ€” Expired Auctions

GoDaddy Auctions -- Discussion, Acquisitions, and Sales

I searched the forum and could not find a thread dedicated solely to Godaddy auctions, which seem to be heating up lately.

I envision this thread as a place for discussion regarding YOUR sales and acquisitions, and general discussion about the auction venue itself, and, perhaps, some domain oddities that are popping up on the auction site, for example, high-priced domains that should be regfee.

:)

One caveat, though: for your own good, PLEASE do not reveal your auction win (or anyone else's, for that matter) until the domain has landed in your account because the original owner still has the option to renew it, and I know how vexing that can be. In other words, don't count your chickens until they're hatched.

On the other hand, if you're having second thoughts about your auction win, by all means tell us all about it.

I suppose that if an auction win is high profile, it's already out there, but, still...

Anyway, I'll start with three comments:

1. I won my first (and maybe last) intentional typo, and it's getting clicks (no $ so far, though): Forwx.com. I could not find a live TM on this term, but one never knows. I have mixed feelings about this one.

2. I accidentally clicked on a BIN that I didn't want (I wanted the one above it), but I decided to honor the bid anyway. Grrr..., so be careful before hitting the submit button. It's not in my account yet, so I can't really reveal it right now.

3. Currently, there's a weird .co domain at over $9,000, with three bidders duking it out. Again, I don't want to reveal what it is, but if you go to the most active auctions, it's number 1 (as of this posting).

Mods, I hope this thread is okay.

:)

Is there any ways to get domain which already at the pending delete, but keep the domain age ?

Thanks

No.

The last chance to keep the domain age is Godaddy Closeouts.

No you don't need to pay renewal fee for normal domain auction, but the wired thing is, you have to pay a fee about 25% of the domain auction price . I think this is pointless. Why the buyer should pay a fee for buying a domain in normal auction? I guess the seller pays a fee too (don't know exactly, as I haven't sold domains through them).

I bought 2 domains through the public auction yesterday and I did not have to pay a fee, just the winning bids.

My first auction experience, I picked up N I B .info and M U Y .info (very in Spanish). How did I do? lol

That's because you won a public auction (private seller) instead of an expiring auction.

Once you get the domain, be sure to check expiration date; some sellers sell close to the expiration date.

This business never fails to amaze me.

Someone just renewed a domain that I had bought for Godaddy $5 closeout; he/she must have actually paid the $80.00 redemption fee because it's still at Godaddy.

Obviously it's no premium domain.

Too funny for words.

I'm not going to reveal the domain; I figure the $80.00 is enough pain.

Here is a possible scenario for GoDaddy auctions:

--On day 25 after expiration, Example.com goes to auction as an expired domain. (Let's say August 6.)

--On day 35 (August 16), the auction closes and the winner is billed for the auction amount, PLUS renewal fee. After the domain is paid for, it goes in the winner's "Won" column, with a note, "Expired domain ready on: 8/23/2012" [Day 42]

--During Days 35-41, while example.com sits in your "Won" column, the domain can be renewed (at a premium) or transferred out (for reg fee to the winning registrar) by the current registrant.

--Sometimes the domain is awarded the night before [Day 41], but typically on day 42. For now, the domain is yours, and you have complete control of it (nameservers, forwarding, etc.)

--Between Day 41-45, the domain can still be clawed back from you and given back to the original registrant. This is pretty rare, though. I think it's an asinine policy, but it is what it is.

Caveat: to be on the safe side, don't brag about owning Example.com until Day 46. By then, I think you'd be safe.

I have NOT heard of anyone losing a domain after Day 45, but I never assume anything these days.

Hope this helps.

Wow, this is a great list. I have won dozens of auctions and haven't lost any due to someone renewing... wonder if that means I'm picking up worthless names - or just getting lucky. Probably both.

how long after your $5 "purchase" was it?

*

It must have happened on day 41 or even 42 after expiration; it was due to go into my account today and it still showed in my won column yesterday (last night).

It was an LLLL com; another LLLL domain did land in my account today. The one I got is actually better than the one I lost, so I'm not upset--the lost one was an iffy choice anyway.

The LLLL .com BIN's on Godaddy are now gone. Yesterday there were about 100...

Did someone snap them all up?

The rest (expiring) all have at least 1 bid, that is, up to day 5 of when the auction closes.

Interesting.

I just hope someone isn't going on an LLLL com bender.

And still 9 days to go. :O

That's a really nice one! It actually stands for something.

Wonder if anyone is willing to predict the final price? :sold:

No, they don't charge automatically. As far as I know it is $10. Can someone confirm this?

I have no first-hand experience, but I have heard that they can cancel your auction account.

Yes, it is correct. In order to avoid/reopen your auction account they charge a fee.

During the recent big .co dump at Godaddy, I picked up two:

aqui.co ("here" in Spanish)

voter.co

Did anyone else pick anything up in .co?

They will close your account.

IIRC, depending on the size of the auction, they have discretion to either never reopen it again, or let you pay an 'administrative fee' to reopen it.

If you outbid a serious buyer on a four figure name, expect for them to (rightly) tell you to pound sand and never open it again.

If you made some nickle and dime purchase and for whatever reason flaked out on paying, expect to receive the fee. Again, IIRC, it's something like $10 for the first time, then it goes up drastically should you pull the same bullshit again and try to reinstate your account.
