GoDaddy Account Terminated

I just had my GoDaddy account terminated. When I called to get it reactivated they said "you're done with godaddy auctions". I kept pressing him for info but could not get him to tell me what the reason was. All he said was I violated a part of their TOS and I would have to read it over. I always pay for my auctions as soon as they are done so its not that. I've bought 400 domains at auction with them over the past 3 years or so.

A few days ago someone who used to own one of my domains that I bought from GoDaddy auction called and threatened to sue me because his google maps listing was linked to my website and I told him to pound sand. Could this be the reason?

Also how easy is it to create another account and use that? Do I need to do it under a different name? While I do not wish to do business with godaddy anymore when certain domains I need in my niche drop I don't have much of a choice but to buy them there at auction and transfer them out.

Why wouldn't you close the account? I've never actually liked godaddy much. I only used them because if someone lets a godaddy domain expire you can only buy it there. A majority of my domains are at directnic. I was planning on just moving the domains there.

This is my first time on the forum and I've never had an account. I came across the forum searching google about my issue. I'm not really in the buying/selling business. I mostly do buying. I specialize mostly in a specific industry and I build out domains and do SEO on them to sell advertising.

because they are the biggest registrar.

you may get turned down by a seller if you cannot accept a godaddy push.

overall, I think it's easier to sell and buy if a simple account push is involved.
more secure, too, IMO

You can also try taking it to Twitter. A few times that I have had an issue with a company's service (not GoDaddy), very public questions on Twitter have resulted in quick resolutions of the matters at hand.

JMO, but bureaucracies tend to ignore you until they realize it is more trouble to ignore you than it is to respond. So, call, and when they say no, then ask repeatedly for their manager. Nice, but unrelenting. And when you still don't get what you want, you keep pushing until someone else blinks. The key is to be unrelenting. They need to come to the sudden realization that they are going to be on the phone with you for -hours- unless they give you more information. The issue simply is not over until you get a reasonable answer. Also, you might look up John Berryhill.

Thanks for the info. While I agree that it will definitely work I think my time would be better spent creating a new account and using it just for pushes and dropped domains and immediately moving them to another registrar afterwards.

I have always been skeptical about there auctions. I have noticed in the past my own domains that expire if enough people go to it seems to end up in auction.

They put up all expired domains for auction before they let them drop. I've gotten some really good domains at auction there in the past.

As cdboard said. You shouldn't close you GoDaddy main account if you are in the business of buying and selling domains. Most end-users, if they know a registrar, it's GoDaddy and they trust them.

I will still have a godaddy account for auctions, just not that one. Also instead of keeping the domains in my account I will transfer them out as soon as I get them. You are right though, you can't be in the domain business and not have a godaddy account.

That's my modus operandum too. Transfer them out after 60 days. But usually a buyer wants to transfer it back to GoDaddy :(

Hi just make sure you can have another account first - it would be a pain if they blocked you creating or using a second account.

Is it possible that you might have had some domains listed for sale with them that you no longer owned?

The problem with budget registrars is that you cannot be a valuable customer. Their net profit from you might only be 50c per domain/year so they'd rather lose you as a customer than risk being sued.

Having said that, cancelling your account isn't going to appease the complainant, unless he just wanted payback.

BTW, this is how Google operates (AdSense, AdWords) - they terminate accounts that haven't done anything wrong, because they are overly cautious.

So by that calculation, GD have lost about $10K from me since I decided I didn't want to use them as my Registrar. And it increases with every year passing. Even this is no biggie for them. They could lose 100 $10K customers before anyone noticed. By which time it's too late. Even if anyone was even looking for these losses. Also I agree with your comment that generally you cannot be a valuable customer at a budget registrar. But I think I've found a Registrar at least which gives me some respect for the money I give them each year. And treats me fairly if any disputes arise. The dictatorial approach of GD, is just too much. But they can afford the losses. Their auctions are the worst communicators. But they probably have a tough job.

Nope, I have never listed any domains with godaddy only bought them. Thinking about it I just recently emailed someone to buy a domain that they had registered on Wild West (is this company owned by goaddy?). I purchsed the domain through escrow.com and had it pushed to godaddy. If they had this listed on godaddy for sale could they delete my account for that? Also is there a way to check and see if it was?

I suspect we're not hearing the entire story...

*

Why?
Because Godaddy has shown itself to be a trustworthy and customer-concious institution over the years?
Or because you have a bunch of domains there and don't want to believe something similar could happen to you?

To the OP, obviously the guy 'threatening to sue you' is somehow related to this. For the two occurances to be coincidentally unrelated would be really, really unlikely. You've run head first into a big-boy world risk that everyone needs to be aware of when they do business with any sort of data intermediary; if someone sues you or threatens to sue them, is that intermediary on your side or do they have no integrity and will sacrafice anyone at the slightest hint of blowback?

Example: some companies will release all your emails to a 'law enforcement request letter'.
Not a warrant, not a subpoena. A 'request letter'. Hooterville County Sheriffs Department writes a letter, they release your emails.
Others, like gmail, will actually challenge warrants with their own legal team.

Who do you entrust your data to?

Unfortunately, absent Godaddy explaining themselves, we can only assume the absolute worst.
Some moron let a domain name expire, you bought it and they went into domain-expiration tantrum mode, threatening to sue and you got served up on the altar like a gut hog.

I was hoping that with the new look NP we could get a new look Fonzie avatar.

Something unoriginal like:

Or more meme-satisfactory:

Wild West Domains is a "sister registrar" of Go Daddy. WWD (like eNom) focuses on resellers or wholesalers such as hosting providers, while GD focuses on end consumers such as you and me.
