Getting end user to accidently "find" you?

The problem I am having about contacting end user with the domain that I think they would like as addition to website they own (for example offering .com to .net website owner) is that it makes pretty clear that I want to sell it if I went through all the trouble of finding and contacting them.

Is there any way for them to accidently find out about my domain that might be available for sale without me contacting them? For example putting some basic 1-page website with the link to their website, than generating some clicks from various IPs that would be hopefully picked up from referral logs by admin?

It is simply that contacting .net owner without having other sales options for that name feels like automatically putting yourself at a disadvantage.

So you want to sell it, what's wrong with that? They should thank you that you're offering them the .com before approaching other potential buyers. At least that's how I see it.

If it's an end user, most end users try to buy the .com first. If it's not available and if they really like the domain name, they settle for some other extension.

The one problem I sometimes have is explaining to an end user why they should take the .com that's being offered to them now when they "already have a website" on some other extension.

Good point, I guess it is worth to mention it to them that the .com has value on its own, and I am contacting them first as a courtesy, so it would not look like that I had only purchased .com to resell it to them, and if they will be tough enough I would either sell it for cheap or dropped it when the renewal time comes.

With that said, I guess it does not hurt to have some other potential end users in mind.
