Getting an enduser to make an offer

Ok here is the scenario. I recently sent out a couple of emails to endusers who had similar sounding domains as the one I own. Within 30 minutes of my emails I had some replies with the typical 'ok how much/what is your price range."

Now in the past I usually respond with a certain amount and wait for a response and go from there (usually low-mid xxx transactions). Since this is a higher profile sell I'd like to know how you guys would turn it back to them without stating a price.

As an example the domain would be akin to DishWasher.org being sold to the owner of DishWashers.com.

Thanks

I personally would still reply with a price. For one, that's what they asked for with their reply. Secondly, I'm sure you have a price in mind already. The chance of getting the "out of the world" offer is not likely when you are contacting them. If they contacted you, it might be a different story.

Agree with Yofie. You are the one contacting them and you will have more success if you name a figure, or at least a ball park figure. That's my opinion and based on my experience when contacting end-users.

Good luck with the sale!!

It seems to me if the guy asked for a price, then not giving him a price will only annoy him, which is not the desired outcome. So aim higher than you would be happy with.

Agree with this. Sending something out saying you're selling something, and then responding to genuine interest in the price with "make me an offer" sounds coy and could scare someone off.

Value your domains properly and be confident in your valuations, then name your price. IMO that's the professional thing to do (also probably one of the most difficult, domain prices being highly dependent on who's buying).

ripley.

Agreed with Above. You contacted them, they said how much, the right thing to do is respond with a price. Trying to get them to offer a price at this point, is down-right annoying.

Well I'm glad I didn't ask for them to make an offer. I guess following my gut was the good plan. Thanks for all of the advice, the last thing I want to is ruin a contact with a prospective buyer.
