GD stopping certain expiring domains from entering closeout?

Anyone ever watch a domain name on GD auctions and notice the listing just disappears immediately after ending with 0 bids without entering into closeout BIN like every other domain?

I thought it could've been renewed or transferred by registrant at first, but it couldn't be because I seen this happen the same day with about 3 or 4 really good ones I was watching.

Is this something known that if a name has obvious quality to it and receives no bids, it'll be flagged by GD and not sent to closeout?

And within a month it doesn't enter the redemption period?

We haven't reached that point. I've been watching them to see exactly where they go, no updates as of yet.

There are lots of people sniping the closeouts. It used to be to save a few bucks, but now it's too get around Godaddy's auction extensions after a bid is placed. If I see a decent name, but one I don't want to get in a bidding war on, I wait for the closeouts. How quickly and frequently are you checking the closeouts after the auction expires?

But you can tell if it was a snipe, it will show on your watched list as closed at $11 (or less if the price was 10)

Didn't know people could snipe closeouts. 1 domain I came across had 30 seconds left with no bids, I was on the actual domain page and kept reloading at the 4 second point. Wouldn't even be humanly possible for someone to enter it into their cart that quick. Plus it didn't even show in my watched list as "Closed" at BIN, it just never showed up. "No longer available at auction" page.

If that happens regularly, it is odd. The only other innocent explanation I can think of is that the name was renewed. Godaddy sometimes leaves names in the auction that have clearly been renewed.

If it vanishes from the watch list it usually means renewed. If you check the whois on godaddy's site, whats the expiration date now

Yes.

One domain I put in my cart, removed it, then was told it was no longer available. Couldn't find it listed anymore.

Guess what, later in the day (after logging out and restarting browser) I searched the auctions and there it was at BIN. Similar happened with another nice domain that day - disappeared and reappeared (this one had never been in my cart).

So I suggest trying looking again with another browser or ip address to double check.

Absolutely I have checked a name it was in closeouts, went out got something to eat and thought about, came back gone, OK someone else got it, no problem. The next day I would see it at $10 down from $11.

I have noticed that when names close at $12 no bids they sometimes take a half an hour to show up at $11 in closeouts.

I have faced this couple of times...

$12 Auction ends as $11 close out in fraction of seconds after bidding ends....

After 1 hour or later the domain came up for BIN as $11 buyout....

Bought some domains like this :)

yes sometimes they go to closeouts within 2 minute other times it takes way longer, there is no real pattern I found as to how long it takes

Apologies for not reading all the messages here. But the obvious reason that a domain doesn't reach the closeout stage of GoDaddy Auctions is because somebody has placed a GoDaddy Backorder on the domain, and has been awarded the domain, before it reached closeout.

That would make sense, kind of.

Thank You.... Useful info

If it is.....How much they spend for back order.... plus any additional fee?

I don't think that's right. When a name has a backorder it will have one bid starting at $10. When a name does not have a backorder the first bid starts at $12. A backorder can't be placed on a name after closeout so any name that has a backorder will show at least one bid of $10 before the auction ends. If what you say is true then most people would place backorders on names so they don't have to snipe the name when it enters the closeout period. Many people play the snipe game when names enter the closeout period.

I think if you place a backorder after the domain is already in GoDaddy Auctions, it's hidden from the auction, but your backorder wins the domain between auction and closeout. At least, that always was the case. I've personally used that strategy in the past.

Sometimes, a potential buyer will place a BIN domain in his/her cart and then not complete checkout.

This happened to me once when I was overseas and could not complete my purchases without help from my rep. Normally, I just got in touch with him, and he was able to complete my cart for me.

I found out the hard way that BINs remain in your cart for only two hours and then are kicked back into the auction.

Unfortunately, this particular domain was already at the $5.00 level and had actually timed out by the time I had discovered it.

I asked my rep if there was any way he could retrieve for me, but no -- not considered ethical, I suppose, and that makes sense to me.

Fortunately, I was able snag it later for reg fee.

Also, I noticed that when a domain doesn't get a bid at $12.00, it sometimes disappears for a time, only to return as a BIN later. Sometimes, it even shows as closing at $12.00, but with "0" bids. If it's something one really wants, try clearing the cache and rebooting -- sometimes that will make it reappear, either as a BIN or closed out auction (I always watch the auctions I bid on).

And even if it shows as closed at $11.00, keep an eye on it; sometimes it gets kicked back into the auction.

I can't think of one reason why GD would want to pull a domain from the BIN auctions EXCEPT for current owner renewal.

The premium names don't usually go to BIN status.

I think what you are describing as closing with no bids is normal practice every time a domain goes from $12>$11>$10>$9>$8>$5. Most of them come back at the next lowest amount within a few minutes. Very few never come back, and I've always assumed, that they actually got a bid, and were awarded to the BIN bidder, or the original owner renewed or transferred away.
