OK so I have a major rant about GoDaddy backordering.

I've tried it 3 times now and all times have failed. My most recent attempt was to be deleted today.

What do you know, I look at my account this morning and it says "backorder-failed" Even though it was capture pending only 12 hours ago. It was not at Snap Names auction or any other aftermarket.

The worst part is that I call GoDaddy to see why it failed. They said it became available at 2:15am this morning and was available for an hour or so. But by the time the GoDaddy backorder robot or whatever got to the name it was already registered by someone else.

I was awake at 2:15 and had I known GD was so horrible at this I would have kept an eye on it and reg'd it myself.

So why the hell did I just pay $18 for something that had I done it myself I would have gotton what I wanted for only $7

I am so pissed, arghh... I know that's just the way it goes though, and I will get over it.

I asked GoDaddy rep what their success rate is for backorders and he said they don't release that info.. Ha I'm guessing it's 10% or less.. IMO

Ohh and now I have to use my $18 for a 4th attempt at capture using their flawed system.. I asked to buy $18 worth of DNs but they said NO!!!!

So what do you all think of this system?

As a former employee, I felt guilty even offering a backorder. The problem is GD cant compete. They have 3 registrars compared to snaps 30 or pools 30 (i think)... Even backordering their own domains is a joke cause theygo to TDNAM. Lesson learned.. move on.

I tried their backorder once, forgot about it, later saw the name up for auction, bid on it :red:-, won, then got an email from gd about the "successful backorder", and got charged twice for the name! I did get a refund though...

I don't think we are going to see any raves here.. LOL

I can't believe I was niave enough to use them. We really need to let everyone know how bad they are so nobody else wastes there money.

Which extensions are you trying to backorder? I know some people have had success with some .biz domains.

I have 4 backorder credits with them right now and I can't seem to catch anything.

It IS frustrating. A few months ago I did manage to catch a brandable 5 letter .com though.

GoDaddy has more than 3 registrars. Snapnames has massively more than 30 registrars drop catching for them.

Strangely, I have managed to get a dozen or more over the past couple years using GD's service.

But lately, I get a "The attempt was Unsuccessful" email, and then I just sit tight, because about 7-10 days later, I often get a "Congratulations, your backorder was Successful" email.

Anyone know why this happens?

This often means you backordered a name that went through Snapnames/Pool/etc and didn't get bids, was more than likely picked up by a taster and got no traffic, then 7-10 days later is once again available.

I never use a backdated order till now. It meaningless, as it not automatic system but manual that all. I can do it myself.

It only tell the world that there are a potential drop soon.

The sad thing is that GD can't even catch a godaddy registered name but I will give one RAVE to GD in their backorders...

THEY CATCH FOUL TASTING DOMAINS :)

What I mean by that is that if you leave a backorder on a name that was caught by a domain taster and that taster "spits out" the domain, GD will pick it up.

I have left backorders on for several days, got an email from GD that nameservers have changed then I see that I now own the name.

I just caught one this way. It was caught by another company, I received the "unsuccessful" email and then when then dropped it GD caught it for me afterwards.

I caught a couple of good .us these past few weeks too with GD.

One more credit left!

Personally I have caught some valuable domains with GD, including traffic domains and made also made several sales from domains caught there. $18 is a bit much for an auto registration though - it can hardly be called a back order service.

Godaddy backorder got me a premium .us back in the day, but I don't think it could ever do that these days. It's not so great for getting most of the major extensions.

I just used GD to backorder a (.net) then I stumbled across this thread...

Great!!!!

wow, wow, wow...

I backordered nearly 50 .us and .biz domains, 90% success rate, all were dictionary names/popular names too! the only one that stick to my mind and missed was gamble.us which was picked up by pool i think!

you have to be seriously troubled to think an $18 backorder .com/.net/.org/.info will compete with a potential $5,000 + bid in snapnames! ofcourse its not going to be the same!

The fact is godaddy is one of the best for .us and .biz backorders.

I just tried to backorder 6-9.us which recently expired. It was in pending delete for a while, I even called GoDaddy a couple times to be sure they were going to snatch it up for me, they did not and now WildWestDomains owns the name. Ugh... It ticks me off.

I've had this $18 backorder in my account for a WHILE now and I keep bouncing around to a new name every couple weeks because they never catch what I want.
