I have a question on backordering if someone can help---

I just captured a name that was on backorder---It was past the drop date but was still showing available---so I went to Godaddy and backordered it---after an hour or 2 when Godaddy checks the status----It was showing an expiration date of next year on the same day that it dropped this year---so I thought someone had picked it up---but under status it was showing: transfer prohibited-----so I thought I would wait and see what happens---so I left the backorder on and a day went by and no change---it was still showing the same status---but last nite I checked and it was showing: attempting capture backorder---and then this morning I checked it and Godaddy had captured it for me.
Does anyone know what happened with this.
Did someone register this and for some reason it did not go thru?
What is this transfer prohibited?

When it expired, the registrar applied the new registration date of a year from the day it expired.
