How do you go through this process?

Obviously if you have something like "music.com" then you are not going to bother with tiny back street stores but are going to go to Virgin or HMV...if your domain is not that premium however how do you choose who to target, and how many do you go after?

I have tried looking at seeing Google adverts and targeting them, but I am only ending up with local results of which there are none, how do you target other cities when Google places refuses to show sponsored adverts from other countries where you may have better luck?

I usually go to google.com (not local), enter term and contact first results for that term :)

You could always use a proxy to avoid getting local results. Another thing you might try is looking at buysellads and other marketplaces for ads and use keywords to search for potential buyers. . .

Just a thought. I hope it helps.

If you have chosen your domain wisely, checking the keywords in the name in Google should elicit quite a few businesses which have the potential to be interested. Visit their websites and look for contact form or email address.

Yes, the process can be quite tedious but I can put up with tedious when selling names for end user prices!

Here are some major tips I use when scouting emails.

1. Google chrome (add on Vitzo Who is)
2. Private registration? Put this as a button in your browser toolbar http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=email+address+"@"&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=

Will show any email online page containing "@namethedomain.com" - some businesses get privacy, but turn around and paste their email addresses anywhere.

Got a large page of email addresses and don't want to copy/paste them, use bancpostonline.com (email extractor) to sort and extract just emails out of text.

Hope this helps, and put on some music.
