Before the ,INFO domain actions (25 free Domainnames for ONE year)

At DEC 2004 there are:
--- Active: 2,989,360 .INFO names

Count after the first 3-4 weeks issuing free .INFO names

At JAN 2005 there are:
--- Active: 3,367,592 .INFO names

Count one year after the free .INFO action

At 02 JANUARI 2006 there are:
--- Active: 2,386,937 .INFO names

Conclusion:
There are 602.423 domain less names the one year ago! So IMO the free names did not make the .INFO name more popular than that is was, even worst it downgraded it?

I understand ;) but it seems that they did not make a difference overall?

Neither did .COM, until the developers moved in.

i dont see any point in .info.. i tend to stick with the original domains. .net / com / .org and occasionly .us. i feel that other people do the same, so yea, i can see the down fall..

ANother reason i see it falling is because of it being a 4 letter extension. Most companies perfer 2 or 3

How do they not look right? they came from the weekly delete lists on Domainstate from pendingdelete.info

They don't look right because they are misleading. The original stats were taken during the period of free domain registration for .info so quite obviously there would be more names registered by those who took advantage of the free offer.

The .info freebie offer has done its job considering that we're sitting here discussing it in the buzz that has been generated with it.

I'm sure the owners and buyers of the names listed on http://www.dnjournal.com/domainsales.htm would not agree with your hypothesis that it's any kind of a failure. Or those in this very thread for that matter who have had success.

What a load of mindless dribble

1/ Original Domains were .com ,.net,.org ,.usYES ,but the introduction
of .info was and does fill a need . The internet is just about "Information" as much as it is about Commercial,Network or Organizations which were the Defined original uses for .com, .net ,.org

2/ 4 letter Extension . HOW would or could the length of the extension limit users Preference. If that was the case .bz would be more popular then .com . Most internet users find URL's using Search listings and Hyperlinks. I have never seen a search engine or Browsers that was fussy about 4 or 5 letter TLD's. What is affecting users is registration of .com and .net domains with non-intuitive names because of the lack of available names, when a very readable and understandable .info is often available.

3/ It is exactly this lack of valid reasoning and irrational decisions that is limiting usage of not only .info ,but all the other usable TLDs & ccTLDs. This is an information oriented business , and as such .info is a valid part of it.

4/ Often .info can be a valid part of the actual search criteria
People do use search terms like "finance info" or "tourism info".

Look at the stats mate, their infront of your face...

4 letter extensions decrease the value in a domain, it ads more letters to the url it self..

i never said that they weere worthless, just i have no use for them,]...
also i believe bz is a cctld?, and infact that doesnt invalidate my theory, it wasnt one of the orinal, i was using an example. .com has the most value imho, as the fact it was first, then .net, .org, then .us, then .biz, .eu, then all those other cctlds... THEN info..

1. I did look at the stats (The correct ones that is)

2. Why would the .TLD Length Matter?? If that argument was valid, than .US would be more popular than .com

3. Yes .bz is a ccTLD , NewsFlash so is .US
and .info has a lot more validity and value then some of those you list before it.

One of the biggest reasons I like .info... you get keyword searches with ext built in!

Agreed 100%...Case in point: One of my sites Pregnancy.info has had no active marketing or any major SEO work done, and also has been in shambles for past 2-3 months with no updates (even the homepage design is totally out of shape) due to my webmaster having to leave due to family issues (looking for another one)....but anyway, for the term "pregnancy info" the site is still #2 on MSN...http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q=pregnancy+info&FORM=MSNH&srch_type=0

I agree. I have lots of hand picked .info's that relate to information and not brandable names.
