Any idea on the value or what I should counter offer?

If the offer is legit that is like "finding the needle in the haystack".

I would just take the money and run.

But if you want to play the game, send back a counter.

I would go to nuts with the counter though.

If you scare them off, I don't see many (or any) others in the future.

Agree about finding the needle in the haystack remark. But the domain has real value to real endusers. Fracking will be a huge political issue in the next 20-30 years, and will heat up every 4 years. Who ever owns and develops the domain will see huge political ad money coming in. It would not be a surprise to find out that a political insider is making this offer.

If you have any interest in the topic and willing to start blogging about it using this domain, it will take off. If not, asking for mid $xxxx. It is worth the money for such a concise domain name that represents a hot button issue.

If you have a slight interest and expertise, you can easily market yourself as an expert and brand yourself an editor of an influential blog (think of drudge report) and an activist spoke person. You can basically get appearance fees to mindlessly repeat rehearsed statements.
