Hi guys,

I found a single word .io domain I can get it for $89, on estibot worth $7,000. Should I buy it? I think it might be very good value, even to hold for a couple of years when these domains appreciate in value.

Also I've been offered a few 2-word .com domains just over original reg price, estibot around $1k each. Are they worth buying? Your advice appreciated

The big question is it a word that someone would know the meaning of right away, or does it have to be looked up in Google?

The .io is a very concise word.
The .com ones are very concise too.

It's like asking. I need you to cross the sea but it's a boat. Where do I get on?
The name is important to really answer your question.

You just have to make the decision. Part of being a domainer is pulling the trigger on a domain you feel strongly about. At the same time, you need to be able to pass on mediocre domain names that seem good but make you hesitate to pull that trigger. My guess is that since you're asking the question, they are probably not worth the money.

I've read that estibot's reliability is questionable. Some big name domains return a 0 value. But what of the domains it actually lists a value? It seems they are somewhat reliable. I also realise I'm opening a can of worms with this question

If you are sure that you can sell it more than the buy price then you should give it a shot.. Good Luck..

Not really. I understand your reason to keep name confidential but it's hard to answer a question without an equation.
Solving the equation consists of determining which values of the variables make the equality true. In this situation, variables are also known as unknowns and the values which satisfy the equality are known as solutions.

How many letters is the IO?

Single word IOs are caught every day, that doesn't mean they are any good.. They are also dropped and not picked up daily as well.

Here's a list of IOs that all had an Estibot "value" of $7000 and what they actually sold for [Source: Park.io]
Also park.io is a closed system, and they get higher prices there than you would get on other platforms, plus none of these include listing/escrow fee
feet.io $99.00
russia.io $104.00
tours.io $116.00
chair.io $200.00
stadium.io $328.00
hospitals.io $104.00
cannabis.io $410.00
festival.io $410.00
cocaine.io $270.00
concord.io $99.00

thanks usernamex,

Ok, I'll be more specific. The .io is a girls name and 5 characters. I've just aquired it, so I'm pretty confident about it. I understand about those io's in your list and will read your links, cheers

Cant tell without knowing the word

Never use Estibot to appraise any names

I sold portfolio of 8.io domains at Flippa worth 11k Estibot for $137. Domains were 2k - 5k in Estibot value.

I would never suggest anybody to check Estibot value. Check Namebio or Dnpric.es. They are the real valuators. Check for similar domains.

for $89? It was probably a good buy, as long as it is a common first name.

The thing that attracted me to this name is, being a girls name, also a generic word in the dictionary :-,
I'm led to believe it's best to sit on the domain for a couple of years, then sell

Good luck with the domain mate.

If you happy to keep it for a while and not sell it immediately then stick it on Sedo at a higher price for the first year, see what sort of response you get if it's not sold after the first 6months to a year then start lowering the price. Like everyone here as already said, Estibot estimates are not always the best guide to go on. However the fact that it's a English dictionary word as well as a girls name is great. If you patient enough to wait it out then you could probably get a decent buyer.

Just keep in mind that when it comes to domaining and life in general, there are no guarantees. :)

If a name is unregistered, it's probably not worth the 'guestiboted' value.

If it would be me .. I would buy it and then post it here and then ask the value question again
