First Sedo sale, no idea what I'm doing

Hi all, I was just lucky enough to sell a domain on Sedo tonight, my first ever sale, and I am a bit confused as to the next steps and would love some help.

It looks like the buyer has already paid the $500 escrow, and I have to fill in a transfer details form and Sedo wants to know about a "technical assistant". Where does that come from, the registrar or Sedo or what? I have no idea.

I messaged my transfer agent, but it doesn't look like I can expect a reply till Monday or Tuesday. I don't want to hold the buyer up if there is something I should be doing now, but I think right now I am supposed to wait for instruction.

Any insights would be great. I just don't want to mess this up :guilty: Thanks.

Nothing is going to happen until Monday -- Sedo closes up shop over the weekend.

Follow Sedo's instructions -- they know what they're doing. For example, they may ask you to wait before transferring the domain because they may need to make sure payment doesn't get reversed.

Ask if you can push the name to Sedo's transfer account connected with your registrar; Sedo has set up a transfer account at each of the major registrars. For example, if your name is registered at Go Daddy, you can "push" (a transfer from one account to another at the same registrar) the name to Sedo's Go Daddy account. That way, Sedo can then transfer the domain to the new owner to whatever registrar the buyer wishes (no 60-day wait).

If it takes a while, it's part of the process. Transferring a name can be complex, and there are scammers out there who take advantage of that.

So, relax, and bask in your sale.

And CONGRATS!

;)

Technical assistant is someone who will do domain transfer to buyer for you, if you can't do this by yourself. If you know how to do this you can leave this option without entering any data.

@dnb8 Thanks for the reply, is that someone you hire, or someone supplied/assigned by Godaddy or Sedo?

@Thanks Ms Domainer. I will hang tight! Thanks for the advice and congrats. I am excited and know it is just the start

@Thanks Aaryn. I am not sure if I can post it. It was in the nuclear field and was a .org I hope you get one soon too!

I think that is someone that you must hire, but the domain transfer process is very easy, if you would have problems with that I can assist you for free :) I did it more than 1000 times :)

Thanks so much for the info and offer dnb8, that is very kind. :hearts: I am going to give it a try myself, first, then I will learn, but if I can get it transferred to Sedo, that may be the easiest. I may still be in touch if I get stuck :]

@ramkumaritrvs Thanks! You have a good one too.

@Venga Thanks. I won't, so I guess I just respond or do things based on the transfer agents message more than the email notifications of stages complete.

Congrats to you!

I have been wondering about the process too so this thread is spot on for me to be reading right now. I haven't sold anything and just have one domain up with Bodis. I'm in the reading, learning phase.

Congrats Honey. I never made a sale on SEDO. I make most of my sales from Go Daddy and Afternic. Nice to hear you sold on SEDO. Shows people can and do sell through them.

Regarding your questions I would think the "Assistant" is on SEDO`s part and not your registrar. Its basically a wizard or a guide to help you through the process just in case you do not know how to proceed.

Nothing to worry about regarding time scales or holding up the buyer. As someone said above, SEDO do not operate at the weekends anyway so Monday is the earliest day any progress can be made.

From my own experience the whole process from escrow to funds in your account takes 7 working days.

@Flipping chick. Thanks. I am sure you will get one sold eventually. I was surprised this one was so fast. I am studying and reading up too, but I can't help changing it up with a bit of "doing" too! The completed sale thread here is very helpful, I read the whole 2012 and 2013 up to now and have a much better feel for what actually sells and how, and how negotaions go. I'll likely go back and read 2011's in the next day or so too.

Transfer was easier than I thought in the end. Because it was a new handreg - 23 days old, and had 37 days before it could be transferred, they wanted me to push it to Sedo's Godaddy account which was pretty easy. You just need 2 pieces of info on the recipient's Godaddy account, sedo have me email and either account number (which they gave me) or username.

@Leo98 Thanks for the info. I didn't end up filling out that bit in the end, they just sent fairly detailed instructions about pushing and it was OK, I think. I am still trying to decide the best strategy for listing domains for sale on multiple sites. Whether to give an exact BIN or make an offer with or without a minimum, and how that works across a few sites Sedo/Godaddy and Afternic. I don't want to have two offers or BINs on the same domain on multiple sites same day (not likely but possible), as I don't make promises I can't keep, but I also want the best exposure possible.

@Johname Thanks so much. I love your avatar BTW!

@Mikeowoicho Thanks and I hope you get a sale there soon. The transfer stuff is not that bad. ;)

Honey, I'm struggling a bit to navigate my way around and can't find the completed sales section for 2012/13 even using the search bar.

Can you direct me a bit on that one and any other suggestions would be great? I don't like scouting around totally unfocussed which is new for me lol.

TIA

I find it a bit hard to navigate too. You can use the Advanced search top right of all the pages here, and the thread on completed sales on NamePros I was referring to is here http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/83628-report-completed-domain-name-sales-here.html

2012 starts here on page 154

http://www.namepros.com/83628-report-completed-domain-name-sales-here-154.html

There are few specific showcase/sales threads for various niches too that occasionally pop up as someone makes a sale. You can check the "New Posts" near the top left of this page in the grey boxy menu bar that starts with User CP, FAQ then the new posts button, and see is any come up. Hope that helps.

Another place to see recent sales is here http://www.dnjournal.com/domainsales.htm

Edited: Oh, Thanks so much Keith! I am a horribly slow typer and missed your post!

Hi Honey Domains,

I know this post is kinda late but congratulations on making your first sale! I am a newbie domainer and I have not made my first sale yet so its kind of exciting to hear about someone making their first sale. I was wondering if the Sedo sale was due to action you took to promote the name / listing or if someone just happened across the name and decided to buy it. Did you contact any end users directly about the name?

Any new activity since that first sale?

Congrats again!
